Spoiler :
Civ4_Screen_Shot0160.jpg

The Apostolic Palace has been built in Beijing and the Great Schism takes place. We choose to stay Catholic but Orthodoxy is founded in Luoyang and the Hagia Sophia is built there.

With the Apostolic Palace built, all Catholic buildings in Catholic cities provides 2 extra :hammers:.

Spoiler :
Civ4_Screen_Shot0161.jpg

We are elected Pope in the first Catholic meeting.

Spoiler :
Civ4_Screen_Shot0162.jpg

Selling Metal Casting to India for gold and world map.

Spoiler :
Civ4_Screen_Shot0163.jpg

I think given the awkward GP modifier that China has, some of the GGs in the name list should be dropped. Cao Cao and Zhuge Liang that follows do not suit the time frame.

To successfully defend the barb horse archers, we need 4 mobile spearmen in Beijing and 2 in Sanshan. And have a unit station on the iron hill to discourage passage through that choke point. The silk road will draw many horse archers to China very quickly.

Spoiler :
Civ4_Screen_Shot0164.jpg

We meet Kammu of Japan. Japan is our next target. Steal Civil Service from them and take their land.

Spoiler :
Civ4_Screen_Shot0165.jpg

With the discovery of Divine Right, Islam is founded in Fuzhou(again). Looking back at it now, we have absolutely no use for Islam, though its wonders are alluring.

Some traitorous ninjas have sold Japan's secret knowledge to the Chinese at a very low price.

Spoiler :
Civ4_Screen_Shot0170.jpg

We adopt Absolutism right after learning Civil Service. Our capital Luoyang will be greatly boosted by it.

Spoiler :
Civ4_Screen_Shot0171.jpg

Meeting Songtsen Gampo of Tibet. Tibet has sheep and incense that we lack(the incense plantation near Beijing is constantly harrassed by barbarians).

Spoiler :
Civ4_Screen_Shot0172.jpg

Why is Harun al-Rashid so angry about us? He should travel to Fuzhou to visit the holy city some time.

Spoiler :
Civ4_Screen_Shot0173.jpg

Riots in our southern border city.

Civ4_Screen_Shot0178.jpg

Suryavarman II bowing down to his worst enemy.

Spoiler :
Civ4_Screen_Shot0179.jpg

The Tang invades Japanese territory. Historically speaking China has claim to the islands(through Naha).

8 Cho-Ko-Nus would be better, 6 are not quite enough.

Spoiler :
Civ4_Screen_Shot0180.jpg

The Apostolic Palace meeting has brought Vikings to contact us.

Spoiler :
Civ4_Screen_Shot0181.jpg

We take Kyouto at the cost of 1 Cho-Ko-Nu. It's a bit tight to take Edo with our remaining army.

Spoiler :
Civ4_Screen_Shot0182.jpg

Spoiler :
Civ4_Screen_Shot0183.jpg

Time to buy Feudalism. The Pyramids and Colosseum are good, but good things come to an end. We need Guilds to continue our research.

Spoiler :
Civ4_Screen_Shot0184.jpg

We are already working toward the first historical goal. A lot of temples(big and small) are being built across the empire.

Spoiler :
Civ4_Screen_Shot0185.jpg

I want the Leaning Tower wonder to be built in Luoyang to accelerate the birth of GP there, Scholaticism is less important.

Spoiler :

Spoiler :
Civ4_Screen_Shot0197.jpg

The free GA we received, together with one of our GEs, starts a golden age. The game can be won at as early as 1120 AD, so it seems.

Spoiler :
Civ4_Screen_Shot0198.jpg

Another great engineer, Zhang Heng is born in Luoyang.

Spoiler :
Civ4_Screen_Shot0199.jpg

Marble import from Persia is no longer possible, we are negotiating another deal.

Spoiler :

Protestantism is founded in Luoyang. How do we deal with the Reformation?

Spoiler :
Civ4_Screen_Shot0211.jpg

Without the Chinese UP, researching new technology requires +20% :science:.

Spoiler :
Civ4_Screen_Shot0212.jpg

I choose to join the counter-reformation, I haven't built the Versailles yet!

Spoiler :
Civ4_Screen_Shot0213.jpg

And that means war against Spain, France and Holy Rome. There's a bug in conversion probability, that's why you see Protestant Spain so often.

Spoiler :
Civ4_Screen_Shot0214.jpg

Protestantism spreads to our cities but doesn't replace Catholicism. I rarely convert to Protestantism upon founding it, but instant gold and a free shrine can also be good.

Spoiler :
Civ4_Screen_Shot0215.jpg

From now on it's just golden ages till victory.

Spoiler :
Civ4_Screen_Shot0216.jpg

The Taj Mahal can start another golden age, but we need to convert to Islam to build it. We don't need it this game.

Spoiler :
Civ4_Screen_Shot0228.jpg

Cho-Ko-Nus' collateral damage is very useful in a winning battle, and the GG-attached bombards make sure they have winning odds. Angkor is ours.

Spoiler :
Civ4_Screen_Shot0229.jpg

Our knights are almost ready.

Spoiler :
Civ4_Screen_Shot0231.jpg

Let's circumnavigate before the game ends!

Spoiler :
Civ4_Screen_Shot0232.jpg

Spreading Islam is tedious when the cities are already multi-religious. I think I failed 5 times at spreading Islam to Shanghai, that's 5 wasted turns for Luoyang.

Spoiler :
Civ4_Screen_Shot0233.jpg

This time the crusade is against France. I don't think any actual wars are fought.

Spoiler :
Civ4_Screen_Shot0255.jpg

We have circumnavigated the globe and proven the world is round.

Spoiler :
Civ4_Screen_Shot0256.jpg

If we didn't research Divine Right and found Islam, we could buy it from Mali now.

Spoiler :
Wonders2.jpg

Wonders in barbarian and independent cities are not displayed.

Well that was well exploited game :)

I think Leoreth will in future rework how religions are founded and how wonders are built. It hardly makes historically sense that China is able to outproduce everybody else.

Btw where did you build 8 temples? Can you post a final screen of your cities.

I don't think China needs any more nerfing, this is Regent, of course you can do something amazing under this difficulty level. And AI China typically keeps collapsing and respawning and have no influence outside its small historical area.

As for the 8 temples, here's where I built them: Luoyang, Shanghai, Beijing, Sanshan, Hancheng, Fuzhou, Naha, Haojing, Hanoi.

That's actually 9 cities. An alternative city placement is settling Beijing 1E and Shanghai 1S, skip Fuzhou.

Build the big temples in your more productive cities, or anywhere you like.

Good to see Fresol back on the track :D

That is some piece of a multicultural China. I love to play as China, what I dislike is, that the same problem you experienced can ruin the UHV /Compass - Greece or Carthage in my games/.

Please, would you consider Mongolia in the future, I am totally not able to win their UHV, with lots of S/L I can conquer China, razing in the first 20 turns penalty free period, keeping like 3 Chinese cities, even discovering Military science entering the Rennaisance era, my expansion stability sucks, not talking about the territory goal ...

Hmm, with Mongolia you should keep all Chinese cities if possible.

Have you checked the UHV thread? I think citis' guide is pretty useful. You need to keep as many Chinese cities as possible, forget about optimal city placement, the more cities you can control earlier, the stronger you will become later. Research Sailing, and acquire Drama->Music, other techs are not very relevant. Raze small cities that can't provide you with extra territory, you know, there are always more cities to raze.
