In the future Civ5 , who should lead the chinese civilization?

Judging by civ revelotion , it looks that mao will be china's permanent leader .And I don't want that , he isn't a good politician. So I was asking , if china had only had ONE leader ,who do you want it to be ?

Taizong should work , or Hongwu ,or even Kangxi

If it had to be only one, i would vote on Mao.

I see you point - the past 60 Years are a bad representation for a country as big and ancient as China is. But by the same argument any other single Chinese Leader would be bad.

Which in the end means: lets just make more than one ;)

If adding more than one - Taizong sounds good. Others, if there are more free slots - can't have enought leaders too choose from ;)

On Mao: I dont like his teachings. He was not democratic and oppressive. Sure. He probably even was a bad person - never met him, so can't say for sure. But i don't think he was a bad politician. He led (by politics and force) a huge country with a huge population. And he left his mark on the world we know today. This is why i think he should be in - regardless if i like his person or not.

I think they got it right in Civ4 - one ancient and one modern leader. As for Mao, I think he was a great politician just not a great person...

Qin Shi Huang Ti was a very good choice. You rather need Mao for modern times. He's just too influential to ignore.

Well spoke. (Or, um... typed.)

Tang Tai Zong or one of the Han dynasty emperors (Liu Bang, Han Wu Di etc) as ancient era ruler. Due to political reasons, Mao will be in the game for sure.

Actually, I've talked about this topic with a friend who is well versed in Chinese history. According to him, Qin Shi Huang isn't a good leader to represent China in the ancient times, simply because of the fact that the Qin dynasty did not last long past his death. It was simply too weak to survive without Qin Shi Huang. On the other hand, the Han, Tang and even Qing dynasty lasted for centuries and made a more lasting impact on China as a whole.

Washington, Lincoln, and FDR may be our more well-known presidents, but aren't always the favorites. It's mainly well-known leaders.

^ you have a point , cause stalin is in the game

I think china should have 3 leaers , ancient , medieval , modern , as well as India .

BTW , Qin was ruthless and cruel , but without him : no unified china , no unified language , no great wall

In principle, that should be Taizong (just look at my sig :D ). After all he was the gold standard every monarch was compared to by the chinese historians, and Chinese living abroad still call themselves "Tang people" (Chinese call China Town "Tang people streets"). Tang at prime was essentially like the 20th century USA - led everybody in tech, economy, political system, culture plus a kick-axx army and was the diplomatic leader in pan-Asia.

If you asked any Chinese 60 years ago and before what did they think about Qin, I bet >95% of them would say "oh, he united China...but.... he was a tyrant". The PRC government has glorified him quite a lot to push certain political agenda, which I prefer not to elaborate in a game forum to start something OT.

However, Civ is a commercial product made to make max profit, so historical significance has to give way to marketability. Qin and Mao were like the two most globally recognized Chinese leaders, and since nowadays Chinese have been made the international bad-axx, Taizong is simply way too benign to fit the market need.
