Chronicles of Mankind

started a new game and added in new civs Denmark since I saw they have their own distinct artstyle flavor pack. Not sure if it's related but in this game I've had some occasional instances where the game has crashed or frozen up when I send a unit to attack an enemy unit. Neither of us are Denmark so I feel it shouldn't be related but Denmark is a civ currently active in this campaign so maybe there's something related?

EDIT: Also for suggestions, how about Mount Olympus and/or the Pillars of Heracles (for Hellenic benefits?) , Grand Canyon (if possible?), Niagara Falls

I'd rather avoid mythical places, at least for now.

But Grand Canyon and Niagara Falls sounds good. I also want to add Zhangye Danxia (Rainbow Mountains) but they will need models and also some cool effects.

Olympus and the Pillars are real though 😢😢

anyway also very late in to ask, but what can I do to improve the AI in terms of war? I read somewhere that I should disable Surround and ranged bombardment, but I also saw somewhere that the AI can handle ranged bombardment fine (and they use it anyway) so I'm not sure what info is outdated and what still works

I know but their significance feels more mythical than natural for me. But I admit that this could be argued about some others as well. So I'm just not hooked about these two, because Hellenic culture and history is already overrepresented in the game and I feel others are more meaningful.

Surround and Ranged work fine. No need to uncheck those.
As for improving AI war, I think the variable is in the DCM settings. I don't remember what I have mine set at, but the AI has surprised me on a few occasions with a well placed amphib ops.

I hasn't seen any signs of AI being able to use SAD and it did nothing to counter ballistas, despite being able to build them too, but those are probably nerfed already. Even in C2C AI can't manage SAD.

Yes, the AI is reportedly unaware of Surround and Destroy. Any success it has with SaD is only a coincidence.

Ranged Bombardment: I don't know about this but this is not the same as the one in AND2. Please, give feedback about your experiences.

My experience with ranged bombardment is usually just If the enemy has an army with ranged units next to one of my units, it will use ranged bombardment on them. But they only seem to really mass up ranged units for city defense which becomes redundant since I use tons of artillery to reduce their defenses and end up wiping out their ranged units first anyway. But this is also only when they actually manage to actually move their armies against me. Not sure if it's distance penalties (on a Huge map with only 12 starting civs) but even when I had a close by AI declare war on me they brought their army right up to my border then stopped and went home. I had a large army nearby but not within bombardment range

Could game speed be having an effect on the AI? I'm getting a little suspicious since the game has been feeling more easy since I switched from Marathon to Snail, but also I notice that the AI civs are going to war a lot with other AIs and cities are constantly being taken and retaken but since I'm usually far away I can't really see if they're benefitting from the slower speed to churn out more units or if I'm just imagining it

EDIT: Also I just realized I can't disabled Ranged bombardment

Good afternoon, everyone. Downloaded it. I installed patch 1.3.2. When starting a game on any map, an error occurs - the desktop is not displayed. BugConfig - failure parshing C:\...\Assets\Config\init.xml at line 118
How to fix it? I am attaching a screenshot.

Probably that's cyrillic messing up file path. Maybe you could move files from there to the mod's folder, if it doesn't work just make a separate user for it (and other BUG-including mods). Otherwise set hidepythonexceptions = 0 in Documents\My Games\Beyond the Sword\CivilizationIV.ini to make sure nothing else is broken. And if you installed the mod in My Games, move it to game's folder/Mods instead.

Think there is a bug in the new version of COM. I am playing through now and noticed that terrain movement limits are in place for most ships including frigates, iron frigates, submarines, destroyers and steamers. These units are not able to travel that far from your boundary before they start taking damage.

I'm not sure I understand correctly: So do you mean, that those units can travel to a smaller distance while other ships can move further?
Please, attach a savefile.

It took me a while to notice something was off during gameplay. The Caravel can travel the entire map. But ships after that are limited to a small distance from your border before they start taking 20% damage per turn. Like in the early game.

And I guess you have the tech that should lift all distance restrictions, right?

Yes I believe once Navigation is researched, the map limits are removed. In this game I am way ahead on the research tree as starting to get more modern ships. But can't move them very far

Hi Nexus

I have tried again today. This time I have loaded the cheat menu and experimented a little to work out what is going on.

I have worked out that the technology 'Logistics' needs to be researched to remove movement limitations to avoid damage per turn beyond the limit set from your border.

The question here is whether that is too late in game for this movement limitation to be removed. I am sure in the rise of mankind it was 'navigation' needed to be researched to remove it for units. At the point of logistics, you will have aircrafts, oil based ships and other modern military which are not able to move that far until logistics is researched. Doesn't feel accurate to human history really.

This limitation is likely only noticed with playing with a world containing old and new worlds. But this means are not able to land anything into the new world until 'Logistics' is researched. Although the Caravel has no limitations on movements, ships researched after that do until 'Logistics' is gained.

Hope this helps and appreciate your thoughts?

Yeah, Logistics seems to be too late, but Navigation feels too early to lift limitation entirely.

IIRC Navigation is increasing the limit distance, isn't it?
Maybe add the same xml tag to a few more techs?

In the rev I currently have, Astronomy is the unlock. So, odd? Lol.
