Chronicles VIII: Dawn of the Philosopher Kings

I guess I can go ahead and divulge his fate. I was hanging on to him, hoping to found Taoism, but alas, somebody beat me to Philosophy by about 6 or 7 turns. Oh well, I usually don't even go with an official religion because it just ticks everybody off.

it always feels weird refering to yourself in third person, I never got why atheletes do it

Great job so far! The battle scenes were... graphic, to say the least.

Now, we marvel at the Pyramids, and prepair for bitter political fighting! (Well, there will be, if real life is any indication)

You are a literary artist able to compare to those who have become legendary. Currently I have been consumed by this story as you can tell from my post time, Magnificent. I should name my Great Artists after you.

One thing I've always wondered is how exactly the pyrimeds teach the people all of the government civics? But if it interferes with the story don't bother with it.

Yeah, the Pyramid effects have never made any sense. In the story I just had it "inspire" Representation...sort of. I suppose we could say that they're such a great accomplishment that they inspire absolute confidence in the leader of the state, therefore he can do whatever the heck he wants. It doesn't jive with the historical significance, of course, but it's still better than in Civ2 & 3 when they somehow turned into giant granaries.

Thanks, and I'll get back to the war as soon as possible...

I decided to skim over it a little... And what I saw I thought should be given a two thumbs up!:goodjob: :goodjob:

This really is excellent, Helmling. Inspiring stuff.

I actually found myself concerned that Claudia would fall into Thracian hands.

KUTGW :)

Good! You were supposed to be. I really took a chance leaving my defenses so threadbare, and if those archers had come at Claudia sooner, there could've been trouble. I would've had to switch to slavery and pop-rush my own archers. Using slavery equals defeat in my book, especially in a game where I'm trying for the moral high-ground.

Thanks!

he posts on weekends. you can tell by his post dates. probably because he needs to work this week. But I really like this story too

Thanks, guys.

Truth be told, though. My delay in continuing is due to playing, not working (it's spring break and I'm only teaching a remediation class in the afternoons). I was trying for a culture victory out of what seemed like a really dreadful start. Then it turns out that the laptop I've got now to run the game isn't up to the demands of the late game. I had to install some remote desktopping/admin software which conflicted with Civ4 on the old one I'd been using, so I was trying this other machine, but the inter-turn waits were unbearable later in the game. Besides, I was going to lose anyway. I wasn't pumping out enough Great Artists and the AI players were building SS components left and right. I would have needed them to get into a massive world war to slow each other down to give me the time to get three cities over 75,000--even with cathedrals from three different religions in the two lesser cities.

It's true what they say, you've really got to start working for those cultural wins very, very early.

Oh well, I promise to get back to THIS story tomorrow. Tonight, though, I'm going to bed.

Most excellent. I hope this isn't all there is.

Wonderful! A 5-star work for sure. I love the way you put such great detail into the structure of the game.

Could we expect a sequel, "THE RISE OF THE PHILOSOPHER KINGS" sometime in the future?

Brilliant.

Hey! There is more! I cannot wait for it. I really want to know what happens!
