Ok, I don't know bout anyone else, but since the update to 3.17, I've never even had the event of the Rebellious Apprentice Happen. Before that, the times that it did happen and I selected to let him carry on his experiments, I never saw this guild founded. So, wat I'm wonderin is why?
Is the chances of the event so damn low? Is the chance of the guild so damn low? Wat's goin on?

Funny.
It my last game with the current updates for BTS and FfH2 this event happened the very first time for me :)
So yeah, maybe its chance is very damn low?!
Since it doesn't apply to mage guilds created by the wonder yet(?), this might reduce the chance further, if you have only one real-built mage guild?!

Well, it was moved to require Sorcery instead of KotE. By the time you get that there are more possible events, so the chance of any one is reduced. The rebellious apprentice event doesn't found the guild. It is the first in a series of 3 events, the third of which founds the guild. Strings of random events never really worked, so it was changed so that the other two events would always happen one turn after another if you got and made the right choices on the earlier ones. These events also only happen once to one player in the game (players added after the start can get around this), so an AI could have chosen it and made the "wrong" choice.

Also, getting the Catacomb Liberalus seems to block getting the Gaelen events, unless you use xienwolf's fix.

Nope. I'm not using any fix, but the event took place in the city I build the Catacomb in, thus the mage guild had to be built manually before.

Hmm...well, it seems that some stuff changed w/o my knowledge. So, now I know how to get the 1st event goin. Ok.

Does anyone know the 3 events required, their dialogue/choices, and which choices will eventually cause the guild to be founded?

Ok. Tyvm, guys.

Did the guild then spread to all of your cities? It's supposed to spread to every city with a Mage Guild, but I'm curious as to whether CL Mage Guilds would qualify for that.

They don't w/o Xienwolf's fix, I was told.

The solution I found was to set the first Gaelan event's <iweight> tag from 400 to -1, so that it triggers automatically for the first civ to sorcery. Then I added in Xienwolf's Catacombs Libralus modification so that the guild spreads to all your cities.

Thus the event works as an incentive to get to sorcery first. In many of my previous games, I would wait for a while on sorcery; however, extra xp for adepts plus a free mage hero makes it more worthwhile. Otherwise, a random Gaelan on his own isn't particularly appealing, as you're likely to have more powerful mages by that point (if the event ever happens), and why should a mage-heavy strategy be punished for building the CL? Sorcery is an expensive tech anyway; should you get a little something for it?

If you want to incorporate Xienwolf's code, search for the thread 'Gaelan again'.
