there growth

does anybody know how on earth peoples cities have grown to sizes of 30 or 40 and beyond.

i have been looking round this site and have seen many pictures of peoples cities of that size the biggest i can ever build my cities is siz 24 or 25 and i dont usually draft units.

I would imagine some have changed the terrain values in thier editor.
Also, if you are lucky to build a city around some flood plains with some food resources you can achieve a fairly large city.

I have gotten a couple of cities up toabout 32 without modifying the terrain value in the editor. I just had enough food being produced in the city with alot of irrigation, and resources.

Irrigate everything + railroads + get lots of grassland/floodplains rather than hills or mountains.
