Exactly!

The idea behind that section is to define the types of decisions, rank 'em, and make sure that the people can always overrule a leader. It's up to the CoL and various procedures to determine how they are done.

Honestly, "official" probably belongs somewhere in the Initiative declaration, as that would make everything else fall in place. Alas, it's not, so a JR will result.

This is a great! poll/discussion thread. It reminds me why I love this game. This is what the Demogame is all about. Well, this and story-telling...

For me, it appears the Censor validates or invalidates the polls of the Demogame. The Censor is the Official who does this for the Government. As this Official he tells us what is "official" and not.

I didn't have much time to post yesterday, so I wasn't able to post my entire thought.

It seems the DG population wants to debate about Official Polls. True, Official Polls have mostly meant polls created by elected officials. Polls created by these officials in the normal course of their duties for their Office. Easily understood.

But I believe the Term Official is used differently with regards to the Censor. The Censor must validate or invalidate posted polls according to the guidelines set up at the begining of the Term. If a poll is said to be INVALID, it will not be officially accepted by the government. Even if a Leader sets up an "official poll" to achieve some course of action dealing with his/her Office, if they do it incorrectly, that "official poll" is not validated, therefore not officially acceptable to the government. So that poll is not an Official "official poll".

The Censor's ruling has nothing to do with whether that poll is an "official poll" or not. The Censor's ruling tells us whether it's an Official "official poll" or not. And by that I mean officially acceptable to the government.

Am I talking too much?

I agree completely. I think i posted that somewhere. And your not talking to much. And i think its fitting my term go out with a bang like this;)

Yes, we do need a discussion of the difference between an initiative and a referendum and an opinion poll. We also need a discussion about the proper limits of the authority of our officials. One of the biggest problems I see with our current system is that little clause here and there that allows officials to set procedures for running their office or their department. I'm all for officials being allowed to conduct their business as they see fit but when they start using their procedures to legislate then things are way out of control.
