City Name Modification Trouble

i've been trying to edit the list of city names for a custom civilization in civ2, but the list i put into the "CITY.TXT" file arent showing up. instead, all i'm getting is a blank for the city names. i replaced the Zulu civilization in the file with the names i wanted, but they just arent showing up! what am i doing wrong?

You changed the civilization in the rules.txt too, right? You have to change the name of the civilization in the city.txt file to match the name in the rules.txt. That is, you have to change @ZULUS to @whatever-the-name-of-your-new-civ-is.

yea i did, in caps, and to the pluralization too. what else could be wrong?

in the rules.txt i changed the leaders names... is there another spot that i need to mod?

I don't think there's any other place.

What do you mean with "and to the pluralization too"? The value in the city.txt should be exactly the same as the 6th value in the civ's line in the @LEADERS section in the rules.txt.

Does the civ's name have any accented letters or otherwise non-standard alphabetic characters in it? If so, don't change the name to caps, but copy the name exactly as it is in the rules.txt.

by the pluralization i mean that the list of cities is preceded by "@ABYSSINIANS" (the name of the civilization, which incidentally, doesn't have any non standard characters) as opposed to "@ABYSSINIAN", following the way the rest of the lists are done.

i'm starting to think the software is just . .. .. .. .ed up or something, but i'd really like to get to the bottom of this problem. i've tried adding a 'test' name to the beginning of another civilizations list, and when i tested it it worked fine. i'm very confused.

Attach your rules.txt and city.txt files. Someone might find something you've overlooked.

Which text editor did you use? Some of them add extra editting or line/paragraph ending characters which might confuse the CivII engine.

i used text edit, the weird mac one. that might be the problem.

i don't have access to the files just now, but i'll get em up tomorrow or some such. thanks for your time on this y'all, it's frustrating.
