City Placement

Hill SE of dyes looks nice to me. (Current blue dot)
less commerce in the short term though, but less corruption right?

I like your arguments for settling on the gold hill. We will need an appropriate name though.

Assuming Blue Dot becomes Gold Hill, would we still settle the green and grey dots or would we just settle one city in that area (SE of the wheat)?

If we settle the gold hill, the name is obvious:

The Treasury

;)

Can any of the Klondyke miners tell me how much the difference in corruption will be between settling on that gold hill and on the best spot according to RCP?
I would just like to know about the short term gain vs the long term gains/corruption :)

The difference is small, depends on how many towns get the same ranks and the corruption we might spare here will add to other towns that move back in the list.
The list of towns is ordered by distance and (in C3C) foundation date.

It would be no* difference if all further towns are settled at RCP5, The Treasury  would then stay Rank 2 after The Admirality.
* There will be a small increase in distance corruption (1-2%?) by distance being 5 instead of 4.

Any town we found later at RCP4 will push The Treasury back in the list and increase its corruption - in favour of the new town. If these are two new towns, the increase of rank corruption might be like 5-10%

All numbers guessed from experience :scan: :mischief:
Someone like to do the exact maths?

The advantage by getting the extra commerce every turn while working food rich tiles is outweighing the corruption disadvantage by far Imo, especially in the short run (growing to 6) but also in mid terms.
Only in long range when we work the hill every turn @size 12, the original dot might be stronger.

Thanks a lot for taking the time to explain that Paul. :goodjob:
The advantage of being able to work a foodrich tile is a great point.:)

I am not knowledgeable about the details of the corruption issues. I findtoo much details as a bit of hassle and a potential fun-killer.

You' re welcome. :smug:

I'm torn about the details - in the beginning I love to plan things carefully and detailled, but near the end, after ~80-100 turns I become lazy and unfocussed and spoil my early investments :hammer2:
So don't expect me to do great plans after we got more than 10 towns...

The disadvantage of settling on the gold hill is that there is no food to compensate for all the hill tiles. In that regard, perhaps 1E of the gold hill is better (two FP's in the 21). But it does depend quite a bit on the lay of the land down south.

Is our next town on green dot, S-SE of the wheat?

We've got another settler coming on board next turn. Are we using him to build a city on the grey dot near the gems? There are barbarians up there though Choi isn't too far and The Gulag will have a warrior ready in two turns.

We need some more city sites planned out!

At this stage in our game, that seems like a no-brainer. We need a steady supply of workers now that we have a settler farm running. We also need warriors like crazy.

So the new settler should move up towards the grey dot / gems area. There are barbarians up there so we have to move carefully in addition to deciding exactly where to settle.

Yes to gems, workers and warriors(not too many, just the needs.).
Beware of the savages though, escort the settler.

I'd like to know the area N of The Gulag better...

But our next two settler should get us the gems and the wheat.
Best site for the gems is not on it but N of it imo. In the short run on it is stronger but in the middle and long run we get more commerce on the otherwise useless thundra tile (river) then if we settle on the gems (we use the gem tile anyway as soon as it's cleared). Thundra is only (slightly) useful after invention (planting).
It also gets us the barb camp without need to attack it.
I'd call that town "The Fridge" :D

To claim the wheat for The Gulag the plain NW of it looks best.

For the Southwest: I didn't dare to think it, but pink dot is the winner imo. It uses the useless desert and gets two floodplains and a sugar (in the long run). Just the question when to pop the hut...
