civ 2 what version have i got?

Hi guys, i need to know what version i definetly have, the box says 'civilisation ii multiplayer'. It has 3 readme's, one says 'multi gold edition readme' with no date in it, the other says 'civ multiplayer patch v1.2 internal v5.3 of multiplayer 1-feb-99', also a readme to do with FW. Now the thing is, i'm thinking i have v1.2 gold edition (even though the box does not state 'gold'), so i d/load patch v1.3 but it will not install cause it says i don't have the 'gold' edition. I have used FW and MGE scenario's without any probs, so do i have an updated 'gold' version or what? Any help would be appreciated cause it's driving me nuts not knowing.

You've pretty much answered your own question but the patch problem is another thing.

to be sure:
1.start a game
2.go game menu/game options
across the top of that window you should see the particulars.

Hi. At the top of the page it shows ' ultimate civilisation II 5.3 of multiplayer 1-feb-99 patch 2'. So again does this mean i have a version of civ II that incorporates the updates that were in V 1.3? I am not familiar with the additions that are in V1.3, so i am still in the dark.

hmmmm..n, I'd say you have a version that incorporates an earlier patch.I haven't heard of this before.I think

I don't know what to say

maybe try renamimg the game to whatever name the patch is looking for....kinduva shot in the dark.
I'll scour thru the civ2 tech forum and see if this has come up before.

it sounds like you have the Ultimate Civilization Collection (UCC) which requires a different patch

I tried the UCC d/load but when run it 'could not find a copy of civII multiplayer gold edition installed' Mmmm strange indeed. So now i've had no joy with either the 'gold' version d/load or the UCC. Thanks for the replies, i guess i'll stay as i am.

ya i kinda figured that.The "2" patches look exactly the same.I can see no difference.
In fact,many places that have the "MGE" patch actually give you a patch titled UCC.

Hey many thanks for the link. I d/loaded the patch in question and it works a treat, it only had a few updates to the version i have but i'm grateful for your assistance.
