I am having trouble in beating the Rise of Rome Scenario in Civilization 3 Conquest even on Chieftain difficulty! Are there any links and helpful hints to all the campaigns in the Conquest games? (I am currently playing on Civ 3 Complete version.)

Some quick notes on the scenario from what I remember. This is assuming you play as Rome...

Concentrate you research on getting your LegII & III ASAP.

The Temple of Athena (or whatever its called here = free temples) is a gamebreaker when your looking for that extra couple of squares towards the end of the game.

Take Sicily early. The Carthaginians will concentrate on attacking it and will not usually make amphib landings anywhere else. Try to keep a good number of vet galleys around Sicily. Sicily makes a great springboard for Carthage itself.

Decide early how to handle the greeks. Either concentrate on wiping them early or join them against the Persians to leave your borders open and free up troops.

Armies are key. Every invasion should be spearheaded with one if available.

Settle the Iberian peninsula (Spain) and Europe, the Celts have only plain jane units, no match for your mighty legions. Avoid using too many resources trying to destroy Carthage. They will settle the Iberian area too, so look out for elephants from the fog. Your big problem is Persia, they start huge and a few big wars later and they win. Last time I won this scenario it was 2 turns before retirement, cutting it really close.

Thanks for the tips, mates! Well, I completed this scenario and am now playing the "Fall of Rome", with the Vandals.

Does anyone know where to find the complete walkthrough of these 8 scenarios from the Conquest campaigns? Or would it be all right to continue this thread and discussing all the other scenarios?

Well, I completed the "Fall of Rome Campaign" but when I went into the Hall of Fame Records, it shows that I am not yet victorious! Why is this so? Is it because that I started from the Civ-Content option and NOT from the Hall of Fame records? I own Civilization 3 Complete version. Or is it because, I failed to save my game in the correct folder? I tend to overwrite ALL of my saved games!

Please help! I currently lost the saved game cos I overwrite the old game by starting a new game altogether but this time, through the Hall of Fame records.

Blanchflower, first, my caveat: Tech support is really, really not my strong suit. Keep that in mind, please. I think there's a problem with the Hall of Fame record being marked Read-Only. I don't know if that's the cause of your problem, but I'd suggest searching the Tech Support forum, to see what problem that has caused for other players. Good luck.

Well, just to let you guys know, I have solved the problem. The reason why my score was NOT in the Hall of Fame is because I started the scenario from the Civ-Content option (where you are allowed to skip scenarios)! If one was to start from the Hall of Fame Scenario, there will be an option to click on the next scenario button.

Lastly, I already knew about the Read-Only "trick" so that was not the issue.

I own Civilization 3 Complete. I think I should also post this solution to the Bugs forum so that other members of this forum can know how to solve this "problem"

Anyway, thanks for replying!
