Civ 3 Gold Wrong Disc

I'm sure everyone has heard of this problem already from what i've seen here, but is there anything i can do without having to return it to Bestbuy? I'll take it back if i have to and see if it works, but I want to make sure if there is anything i can do to get it fixed without having to return it.

Any help from anyone?

Have you checked the stickied thread on the CD errors? Tried patching up to the latest version, checking Windows Update for updates on the CD drive, have you checked to see if there is any new firmware for your CD drive?

I would take it back anyways and try to get my hands on Civ3 Complete, since Complete has everything Gold does, plus the Conquests expansion.

As for getting Civ 3: Complete, well, i may not have the funds. I bought Civ 3: Gold online for about 9.99+ tax and shipping using a gift card, cause i thought it was a great deal. I had Civ3 in the past and i enjoyed it, and I've been a big fan of the original civilization since the days of yore. It really ticked me off yesterday when i decided to install and play it, only to get a wrong disc message when i tried to play it. From what i hear, my disc is missed a SecuRom file, and returning it and asking them to check to see if it works will solve my problem, but i'm not sure.

I'd be happy with just the original Civ3, but the PtW expansion makes it more interesting. If only it worked..

well, currently i don't have any money to spend, and like i said, i'm happy with Civ3+Play the World. I just need to get it fixed.

Also, if i got it online, and have the shipping info, package and the game, do i need anything else to get a working copy?

How could this problem still be going on after 4 years? The first post on this thread was made in 2004 if I'm reading correctly.

I just bought my Civ3 copy at BestBuy and am getting the no disk message. Hopefully taking it back to BestBuy can solve something.
