misleading title, sorry!

I'm not actually doing one, I'm asking if someone will, as I don't have voice or video capture software that works.

It'd be the best if someone could do a LP of Civ3, because right now the only choice is Bonecanoe, and I'm not going to say why I don't like his LP's because I don't want to hurt feelings incase he's on da forums :)

If someone would make one, I'd be as gitty as a kid in a candy store, and I'd be your friend :D

I bite, what does LP stand for? Old as I am, I think Long Playing record, when I see LP.

Why would anyone spend all the time needed to make a "lets play" of Civ III now? Maybe 5 years ago or 8 years ago it would have been a worth while effort.

I think there are some, but they are either low quality or the player's skill is low quality. TheMeInTeam does some good Civ LPs, if you're interested.

I did a search on "Let's Play" + civ3 and got several items. I remember seeing one that was well done, didn't learn much but it was well done.

I could see some videos on certain aspects of C3C. Map sizes would be easy to explain in video/slideshow. Explaining the difficulty levels, too, perhaps. Differnces in governemnt types. Settler pumps. Despotism penalty. Two-fer trading.

Not easy to do, especially to do well.

As you can tell by the first few questions asked in response, Let's Plays aren't a big thing here in the Civ3 forums. Largely, we stick with our traditional approach to the concept over in the S&T. I haven't really searched that much for Civ3 LPs as I haven't had the need for them. Partly, it's definitely because the demand just isn't really significant (no offense, but one person won't convince someone to buy the software to make one).

Anyways, I'd watch one if it was decent, but many that I have seen have been low quality, or some idiot putting everything on automate and then complaining about graphics or whatever. But like I said: I haven't looked that much into them.

I didn't ask for people to go out and BUY stuff, I just asked for anyone with the stuff already if they would just record gameplay. Obviously no ones going to do it just because I asked, I just thought I might as well, y'know?

:D

I've tried to watch a little of one or two of the LP's before. I just looked at this one briefly, and of course I've shaked my head at several of the opening moves.

1. You don't want to just plop down blindly wherever you start.

2. You can see that you start near a coast, so why don't you put the city along the coast?

3. If you have a plains and a grassland adjacent to each other, don't found on the grassland. Found on the plains. You increase your overall food potential (which can also increase your production potential this way).

4. He researches Pottery first, which even though I might not do, I don't have an issue with. But, then he doesn't build a granary!

5. He researches Iron Working, which you rarely ever need to research, unless playing a variant.

6. He crosses the river by moving the worker back into the city and then somewhere else. He could have saved worker turns by moving the worker along the river instead.

7. Irrigate the plains wheat for more food should come as the second priority for the worker, but he doesn't do this.

Although I agree he's bad, my main problem with commentators is things they cant control, their voice. I feel bad saying that, but it's impossible to watch people like Bonecanoe (The most popular of the Civ3 LPer)

I believe it would come as a better use of your time to read strategy articles around here, look at some succession games, as well as War Academy articles, and learn how to play the game better. For Pete's sake... Bonecanoe automates his initial worker! He also really should move the worker first before the settler wherever it'll probably go anyways. That way, if a food bonus lays nearby, you might see it before planting your settler, and consequently you can more quickly get access to it by moving the settler. I didn't watch much more than that.

Why do you want another LP anyways?
