Civ 3 Mod with kings and queens

Dear Community,

to answer this question I think it really needs some fanatics.

I am trying to get a certain mod (i think) for my pretty aged father. Lets put it this way – he has very little experience with computers and programs and according language, but he has a lot of experience with Civ III – the only game he would play for the last 20 years. Now the sacred, VERY aged laptop with the installation is out of order, not possible to recover and we are trying to get the settings back (we are my husband and me, who definitely know nothing about Civilization). We managed to get it via Steam, Complete Version. Now dear dad ist unhappy, because it is a version without „the kings and queens“ – when I asked, how to recognize it in the game, if it is the right version, he says to start it an in the fist screen after starting a new game, choosing for exapmle Egypt, there should be at least 3 figures, a settler, someone i forgot and a queen or king, he says something about 7 kings or queens. If it is not the right version, there are only 2 figures. Thats all I got… As much as I may google, I cant find such a version.. I tried going through the mods here but this certain feature is not mentioned in the short descriptions.

Can anyone make sense of this? I think we would even need the german version, but if there is none, Englisch would do…

Is sounds like not a mod, but one of the game-modes from Civ3 Conquests. When you start up a new game, one of the pre-game screens should have a part where you can check/uncheck various rules. Make sure your dad has "regicide" switched on, that way the game should start with the King units.

And if he wants there to be more than one King-unit per tribe on the map at the beginning of the game, that means he needs the "Mass-regicide" setting.

To do that in the base-game, you may also need to click the "Game limits" ("Spielgrenzen"?) button just below the Leader-picture, to select the desired number of King-units at game-start.

you are my hero!! and my dads ) mass regicide was the right thing!!
now is there an option to get the language change to German? the download version didnt have it and we couldnt find another german version of this.
Is there a way to get a language pack or a language file to add?

There are options to get the german language back into the game. I donnot know of an option to simply get back the old translation, but a (minor) mod based upon it was published by Civinator.

20 years only playing Civ 3 -that is great and it is also great, that you want to help "dad"!

The special problem for installing the German version seems to be, that "dad" has next to no experience with computers and you have no experience with Civ 3 - and understanding the installation hints in German language can be somewhat complicated as the enhanced German version of Civ 3 Complete also deals with a second program (C3X), that your dad will not need for becoming happy again. I will explain you a simple way to install the basic Civ 3 Complete in German language -but it would be better if you buy the GOG version of Civ 3 Complete, that at present is on sale at GOG (Good Old Games) for only 99 European Cents, as the steam version has a big problem in its texts, playing havoc with the most mods and scenarios, including the German language patch, without aditionally needed fixes.

The best in this case is to post in the linked thread of the German civ site and I will help you at that site with the installation in German language. To write here all doubled in English and German language is costing me too muich of my time.

Das besondere Problem für die Installation ist im vorliegenden Fall, dass "Vati" keine Ahnung von Computern und Ihr keine Ahnung von Civ 3 habt. Die komplizierten Installationshinweise für den "Deutsch-Patch" können in Eurem Fall deutlich vereinfacht werden, da hier - anders als im erweiterten Deutsch-Patch - keine Installation eines zusätzlichen Programms (C3X) erforderlich ist. Für eine möglichst einfache Installation wäre es aber besser, wenn ihr die GOG Version von Civ 3 Complete als Basis verwenden würdet (GOG ist GOOD OLD Games), da die Steam Version einen nachträglich eingebauten Fehler enthält, der in den Texten der meisten Mods und Szenarien für erhebliches Chaos sorgt, und dessen Behebung einen zusätzlichen Aufwand erfordert.

Die GOG Version von Civ 3 Complete ist derzeit noch im Sonderangebot für 99 Cent erhältlich.

Meldet Euch, auf der in obiger Post verlinkten deutschen Civilization Seite und ich werde versuchen Euch in deutscher Sprache zu helfen, dass "Vati" wieder glücklich wird. Alles bei CFC in deutscher und englischer Sprache zu schreiben, kostet mich zu viel Zeit.

we already got the GOG version also but my husband is trying all he can and i wont get german - the patch was flint lock...

he says after installing the flint lock patch it said that it was successful, the files were created but then - again English

well I guess it is done, we did use part of the C3X and we changed some of the files from another patch. It says there is a C3X error when we open a new game, but it still works...
no need to write 2 languages, laptop is with us, we speak Englisch and German, Dad is at his place on "pause" as his shoulder is injured and doc told him not to move it for a few days...
