Civ 4.. appeals to a casual audience?

I think what's really going on ... is we're getting Civ, the final version, for us, the long term fans, with some compromises made because it still has to at least break even. The most noteworthy change to this version is that it is fully moddable. Well, that's basically like handing us the keys ... it means expansions, and even future versions, would have to compete with mods which are probably going to be better. I think it's Sid's present to all of us loyal fans who have stood by the franchise all these years, the thing we always wanted - full control to make whatever game we want. If you're listening, Sid, it doesn't quite completely make up for the demise of Avalon Hill, but it sure does come close!

I think Firaxis is in it for the money, not many Companies aren’t going to spend that kind of money just for a gift, Make no mistake about it, their in it for the money. The game is getting a lot of attention in the gaming world just pick up a gaming magazine or two. Sid’s coming off of a very popular remake of Pirates, which is now moving over to the consoles, believe me the younger gamers are going to recognize his name and will take a hard look at Civ.4. The older gamer already know his name and the kind of games he makes, and the fanatics well……… I think they know him too. My point is that Firaxis’s made Civ.4 because they saw a nice profit margin not an opportunity to give a gift.
