Civ 4 BTS crashes my computer after a few minutes

I have a bit of a problem with one of my saved games, I play as China on the Warlord level (I know, I'm noobish) using the latest 3.17 patch with Solver's patch version 0.19.

After playing the game with this save for about five minutes the game crashes the whole computer, no blue screen, screen just goes black and all you can do is reset the whole thing. Ctrl + alt + delete or alt + F4 don't work either. Just wondering if this is an existing bug within the game or if it's just a problem with my computer.

When I start a new game this crashing doesn't occur, so it only seems to be a problem with that saved game.

The save file should be attached to this message.

Anyone else had similiar problems?

I found out the reason for the crashing, apparently it isn't Civ4 that crashes but my AtiTools. The game doesn't probably like my overclocking settings. Thank you for offering to help anyways!

I too am having this problem.. very irritating.. How can it be fixed? windows 7 x64, 6gb ram, BFG GTX275 oc.

please post any error messages the crash might cause and you dxdiag results file, also what patch version this is.

I have the same problem...I can play for about 20 min in from a new standard game, regardless of map size. And if I play a saved game, it lasts for about 10 min. It completely crashes my machine to black screen, makes the sound skip horrendously. I have to flip the switch in the back to get her up again. I get no error messages, and I cant even use ctrl+alt+del....

Has anyone found what this problem is? Also, my computer crashes on: Fallout 3, SimCity Societies, & Any Civ4 Mods. Luckily my Sim City 4 and Shaiya(free mmorgp) still work.

I'll look for anything about errors next time Civ4 crashes. If I can find that when I reboot? also using the 3.19 patch.

Any help would greatly be appreciated

I have crashes as well, but not the black screen. I have two versions. One is the blue screen of death, which dumps and restarts, and the other is a 'Civ 4 has stopped working' dialog box with the option to check for solutions (none) and close the program. It only happens on Civ 4, but I am wondering if it has to do with my 4GB RAM which is the only new hardware change. I've installed 3.19 patch too. Any ideas? It's infuriating.

I don't have any error messages...the power to the monitor shuts off and I cant use ANY input functions.

I have a similar problem, playing a normal game u know, i choose the duel map due to the fact i thought it wouldnt crash with a smaller map... oh boy I was wrong... playing like 45 min then the whole "$H1T" goes down... and I cant restart my computer for a couple of minutes, my first thought was that civ is makeing my computer to hot? but then i thought.... i didnt have this problem before, so why now? pls pls plsssss can someone help me out, my civ fingers are itching..

Hope this is the right place to post this....I am getting the black screen crash after just a few minutes of playing. There is no message, just crash. Have to completely reboot the computer. Enclosed is the dxdiag file. btw, I installed the latest video drivers this weekend, but that didn't fix the problem, so I went back to the old drivers, that's why there not up to date. Have never had this problem before, been playing the game for years, never had this problem....now none of the versions of Civ will work...vanilla, warlords, or BTS...all crash after just a few turns

I'm using windows XP, w/ nvidia geforce 9500gt video card game is patched 3.19

I have had the same problem. It is like the computer turns off and will not respond. Black screen. The computer is very hot and will not restart until it cools down.

The interesting thing was I had this problem for a while, then it stopped. I could play vanilla most of the time without issue. If it did happen, it would be rare and random.

The I tried BTS and the problem happens every time at about 5 minutes without fail! And now I cannot play the vanilla anymore.

I need to know of a fix.
