Civ 4 Direct IP Connection Issue

Hey all, ive been trying to join and host a direct IP game and have failed miserably so far. My Norton firewall allows all Civ 4 activity, my lapton is brand new, windows vista, wireless internet connection and i only bought the game last thursday. Everytime i try to join or host a game the message 'the connection to the host has timed out' appears on either my or my friends monitor, depending on who is hosting and he is also in the exact same hardware state that i am in. Whats the problem????

I have the same problem. I cannot connect with my friends even though I have entered allow parameters in Norton.

Someone please help!!!

I hate to bump, but this is almost the exact same situation I'm in.

I can't help but notice, but the few times I've seen this come up (in the short couple of hours I've spent searching the forum) it's never replied to.

Although this thread is old, maybe someone could stumple upon it through google so:

had the same issue, just need to set up the steps for your router found on portforward. Or put your pc in the DMZ of your router. This solved it for me

adversus i know you are only trying to be helpful but all the link you posted does is tell you to download a £30 programme it doesnt tell you how to do it. i would like to do it without being ripped off for £30
