Civ 4 Game of the Year Winner!

Yeah, seriously. Cheers to Firaxis and Sid Meier, for this is the greatest game I have ever bought.

Well, that and all the previous installments. ;)

HELL NO CIV 4 ISNT THE GAME OF THE YEAR!! fraxis should be ashamed they releases this bugged game. i understand the principles of marketing and making the all mighty dollar, but they should have put more time into fixxing the MANY bugs this game has. every game i have bought has had a few bugs, but civ 4 is filled with more than i care to list and many more i probably dont know about. i am one of the fortunate few who can run this game for the most part, but even i have had my computer crash or freeze up due to civ 4.

this game is good, but until fraxis gets their heads out of their asses and fixes this games problems, this game will never be great, much less "game of the year"

Do me a favor ... there have been infinitively better games throughout 2005, especially "online" versions. Reviewers and magazines are as bad as the bloody 'news' channels ... they sell out at the first opportunity.

It's a good game, but it'sm*NOT* game of the year.

Whats the best game then?

My vote's for game of the year. Name one other game that has as much POTENTIAL as Civ4. That has as many people working on mods even at this early stage.

Only game I've even bought this year, that I recall.

Yay for Civ IV! Definetly deserving of the title.

out of 1-10, id give this game a 5.5 based on gameplay itself i give it a 9. based on technical issues people are having i give it a 2. its ridiculous the amount of bugs this game has.

There are patches out you know.

First game I have bought in 2 years. Need I say more?

Love it in spite of its technical issues (yes, I'm one of those impatiently waiting for it to play on my 'required specs' machine properly...

It's Game Of The Year for me. I love it. I acknowledge the tech issues some may have, but I'm one of the lucky ones. So far, it's been smooth sailing.

What would your choice be?

Personally, I've gotten more playtime out of Civ4 than out of any other game this year. And that's impressive because the Sims 2 ate a huge chunk of my soul early this year with its 2 expansions.

I swear, I really do think that this is the Game of the Year (for me, anyway). I seriously have never been more addicted to a game much like Civilization IV. I have played a Civ game almost every 2 to 12 hours since I've bought it. I haven't liked a game this much since Half-Life 2, or even any RPG from the SNES that most people may like.

I don't think Age of Empires III should be game of the year. I don't think F.E.A.R. or Battlefield 2 should be game of the year. I really agree that what you can do in Civilization IV is so cool that it just beats the hell out of everything else. You say it lacks support, but I think the ability to modify almost anything in the game is by far, the most support I've ever seen for a game. Most other games protect their files up the butt so nobody can modify it, but XML is so simple to modify that anyone can do it.

A game that came out with so many technical issues? This has to be an elaborate joke.

"My vote's for game of the year. Name one other game that has as much POTENTIAL as Civ4. That has as many people working on mods even at this early stage."

The reason for that is that the gameplay isn't all that good. People are trying to make Civ4 what it SHOULD have been when it came out. It has a good engine/setup, but the game itself isn't Best Game of the Year stuff.

Who is paying who? Is it Firaxis or T2 buying off the formal game reviewers? Maybe both? Check out the _user_reviews on amazon.com. Hundreds of coustomers seem to think the game sucks. It is riddle with bugs. I sold my copy on eBay b/c the store would not take it back. May as well burnt a 50 dollar bill.

   is what I say to these _paid_ reviewers who are sticking it to the customers. If you're dumb enough to buy the game and give these creeps money, then you deserve what you get. :goodjob:

What the...?

I don't think Civ4 should get GOTY primarily because it is such a late year release and has not had time to grow into it's britches. F.E.A.R. is a more likely candidate, even if this is a strategy forum.
