Hey, I just got a Acer 5000 laptop (Yes I know, not the best gaming laptop) and I've been trying to install the original civ 4 on it. Now, the install goes smoothly until I get to : Assets\art\movies\wonders\oracle.bik. It then freezes there and also, the disk noise stops, and the computer goes silent. Now, sometimes if I wait long enough it will get passed that to the parthenon video, but it never gets passed that.
Now I dont have a good graphics card, but that wouldnt stop me from installing the game would it? It would only make it slow right? Thanks for the help.

Alright, I did what you said and after a while of copying I got this error:

Cannot Copy Data2: The request could not be performed because of an I/O device error.

My current desk top has some sort of problem and I cant operate it. My mother has a work laptop, and I have tried installing Civ 4 on there, to test the disk, and I had the exact same problem.

There are small tiny little dents on the disk, could this be causing the problem?

I was able to install roller coaster tycoon on the drive without 1 problem.

Perhaps it is the disk.

I think its too old for that. I got vanilla when BTS was first coming out.

EDIT:

I was able to download Data3 from the second disk without any problems. It seems that the one file cabinent : Data2 is the most trouble. I hav civ 4 installed on another computer, perhaps I could just copy the contents from that computer onto a disk I have and install it on my laptop?

I've had a look on my PC and there appears to be a data2.cab in the installshield folder. I really do not know if it will work but it may be worth trying to copy all of the disk except data2.cab to your hard drive, copy data2.cab from the other PC to the appropriate place then trying to install from your hard drive. Sounds like it could be a new copy though, at least civ4 complete is cheap now.

All I need is to get civ 4 installed so I can install BTS and use the BTS disk.

The problem is is that my desktop is completely screwed. I can only run it in safe mode so I wont be able to get the files I need yet.

Can someone perhaps download their disk 1 contents on to their computer and send them to me? Or is that illegal?

but i have paid for the game, all I need is the contents of the first disk, not the others, therefore I cant get the full free game.

Can there not be logical exceptions?

EDIT:

Ok, how about someone just send me a copy of Data2?
