I've lost my Civ 4 disk and am thinking about buying a new copy, but I recenlty got a new computer that has Windows 7, 64 bit. Does anyone know if Civ 4 will run on a 64 bit operating system?

I currently run civ IV BTS on my windows 7 64-bit machine. Also all mods I've ever tried work on it to.

I have installed my Civ4 install into c:\games

Just make sure you run all steps as administrator as well.

Works for me too, with a note however: Every time I quit in-game to main menu the game would crash. I did a google and found something about a dll missing, can´t remember the filename. However, I found that one and put it in the game folder and now it works fine. Don´t know what that was about really.

it was a directx9 dll I. Note I did not have to do this with my install on Win7x64.

It runs fine for me on 64-bit windows7.

BTS will give a user access warning if you don't patch it. (unless you turned user acess control off), and Vanilla won't run at all without patching it.

Yes it will.

Look for Lemon's Civ/Vista guide stickied in the Civ 4 technical support section. Although it is for Vista it gives a suggested install sequence for the disc version. You may also need to install the directx9c which is linked to in the thread (sometimes the install doesn't seem to do this properly).

With W7 it is important to right click on each setup file or patch and choose run as administrator rather than just doubleclicking or letting discs autorun.

it was a directx9 dll.

Yes, Windows 7 doesn't come with DirectX 9 installed. While Civ should add what it needs to your system when you install it, it's still not a bad idea to go to Microsoft and download the latest version of DirectX 9 from them.
