Civ 4 Patch 1.61 won't install

Hi all,

I've recently bought a new computer with Windows 7. Installed Civ 4 Complete and started playing it... 2 turns into the game, the game crashed or froze and all I could see was a blank screen. So I restarted my machine and sought out to solve the problem.... I downloaded the recent directx from Microsoft and downloaded the latest patch for civ 4 (v1.61), not from the 2k website (as if you click on the link you can't access the patch). I got it form an another site that was hosting the patch.

Anyway, I try and run the patch and it comes up with an error:

"The setup has detected that no version of Sid Meier's Civilization 4 is installed.
This update requires that a previous version of the application be installed"

Any suggestions?

The latest patch for 4 is 1.74, and as you have the complete version that would already be patched to that so you have overwritten it with an older patch that will not run on W7.

The directx you installed, was that the latest version of directx9c?

I'm afraid your best bet is to uninstall then reinstall. When you have done so the only Civ 4 game you may need to patch is BTS, check in the menu Advanced>About this build to see if you need to install the 3.19 patch. If you do have to install the patch, download it outside of the game, right click on the patch and select run as administrator to install it.
