Civ 4 Port to Gaming Consoles???

Civ4 for the PSP would like be limited to only duel size maps with no more than 20 units at once.
Civ4 for PS3/360 would have to have the modern age basically taken out since computers with twice as much memory get noticable slowdown by then. Maybe Civ3 for the Wii.:)

Odd... My PC runs Civ IV perfectly, but stutters and stalls on The Elder Scrolls: Oblivion... Yet an XBOX 360 runs Oblivion quite well. Are you suggesting that Civ IV in the modern age is more demanding on a computer than Oblivion?

Don't let raw stats fool you. PCs have a hell of a lot of overhead and other factors causing them to do things less efficiently than consoles. Civ IV is a relatively resource light game compared to games already running on these new systems - if they do more than an extremely sloppy port, they would run Civ IV perfectly in every way but control.

One big difference that PCs have over consoles is memory. Civ4 is a very memory intensive game.

And yet it runs on my old beater with a GEforce 2 and 512 megs of RDram... The system requirements on the expansion suggesting that I could get by with half that much ram. Go figure?

Yes, and when it runs out of RAM it hits your hard drive (which is optional even on the 360).

Does anyone know if civ 4 is going to be available for gaming consoles? PSP or xbox?
Get ready to pay away. Screw Civ4 in stays on the PC where the flawed memory sucking core of the game depends on it.

Expect Civ5 a history colaberation(sp) of past releases done up alilttle but not much. You'l get Civ2 and Civ3 Conquests and even Civ one all on one disc. NOt to mention some of the best mods for Civ3 as a bonus DVD option, Muliple terrain feature for Civ3 and two! Yaaa

Heard of Tekken 5? think of it like that, with its Tekken History features that exclude its most receant meatier 'tekken 4' release/

You should have got the hints already. PS3 is the console that finnaly after all these years able to pull off the first to stores version. Havn't you noticed Civ4 change to a more comsole friendly audience. Yes internet playt will slightly improve so will speed playing with tones of Civs.
No more "its not fair! my computer woun't play this and my specs just meet the box's"

After to many for board rooms comfort were being burned with Civ4' slow response when stacking the board with lots Civs and on huge maps in late game with majorty computers, They solved the problem by going they way there parent insisted.
"WE reamearge and take the new market for strategy on a new level of console quilty, suited for are gametype"
They had to do it,i t made sence. PS3, a even playfield, more powerful then majority of computers (by the time Civ5 would be released) THis allows expanded gameplay with no more patch problems The engine will be redesigned to max out on the new consoles advantges over average PC's of the day.

CIv5 is Console first Super PC second. Go out and reserve your 700 doller console they may even drop CIv5 i time for christmas ( you really think that mega huge merger dosn't have its advandages come release schedules: :smoke:

btw, sorry to break the news to everyone

If the developer would like to port Civ4 to what is a dead (in marketing terms) handheld system, that is their business. Trade in your PSP while you can get a good deal for them. The DS Lite is walking all over it at the moment. I seriously doubt it will be ported to any handheld system, watered down or otherwise.

TA JONES - cite your source for your post. The PS3 is out of most peoples budget at the moment. I certainly wouldn't be getting one this Xmas and Civ games or any RTS games rarely make onto console systems since there is little demand for them. Consoles gamers are more a quick reward casual breed. This is the first I've heard of any such rumour and the CIV market is very niche.

Anyone can make up stuff, most can make it more believable then you.

I'm sure they could find a way to make it fit into a modern's console's memory if they really had to, but I'm more worried about fitting the graphics into a standard-def TV screen. There's only so many lines of text with a fat font you can put up on a regular TV. The game would have to be crippled to fit.

Standard def is on the way out. The 360 and the PS3 both assume you you've got a high def tv. (The most common complaint on Dead Rising is that it is hard to read the fonts if you play on a standard def tv).

If you rearly want Civ on the the move you can get it on your mobile Not sure if you want to though looks a bit out-dated to say the least.

Menus would be annoying with analog sticks, End of Story

Civ4 could very easily be put onto the Wii. Its definitely strong enough and controls would not be a pain

NO "end of story"
Don't you consider other attachments will become adaptable with the next gen consoles, cordless mouse thingy and regular mouse, also cordless keyboard, and whatever else they havn't anouced yet . Its going to be easier to play just the same as Warpstorm said its going to be easier to see. poor boy :shake: stop livin in the past :scan:

And I'll say it again the new parent is taking its kid to a whole new school. CIV 5 is console driven from now on, We can thank the lastest sequal somewhat for this disaster. CAn't stick around for rebuttals , but I do consider them. What I say is no more true then what anyone else does I know this :mischief:

My Civ experience began with Civ II on the original Playstation. The menu systems work quite well (one button brings up an overall menu, scroll up and down, select to drill down further). So it's not out of the question for such a game to be implemented on a console, and maybe a later generation console will be able to handle the greater complexity of later versions of this game.

I was actually enjoying a game of Civ on the Playstation last night, as my PC still has graphical problems that might or might not be related to Civ IV.
