my questions are simple...
will ther be uniuq units in civ 4?
if all relgius have a genaric ablitys, then y have religouns at all? whats the difrents between islam, cristanity or buddhism??
and ther are 28 leaders to chose from but 19 civs? what are some of the known leaders?

and btw... i hate the rts game infrance!

Will there be any customization of civilizations?
Will there be any more naval units for the eras between the age of sail to World War I?

@Vietcong: According to what I have read, religion will play an important part. Most likely, you will have easier relations with those who ascribe to the same religion as your civ. You will also be able to switch religions. The makers of the game decided to give all religions equal footing so as not to offend anyone. Thus...religion probably has a role in happiness, foreign relations, etc. Never the less, each religion will likely be capbable of having fundamentalist movements and fanatics.

There will be unique unit icons in Civ IV, but whether or not that will be the same as the unique units of Civ III (e.g. Immortals, Hoplites, Legionaires, etc) I have not seen any word on this. Units will, however, be able to get experience fighting in certain situations or against certain enemy units and may get bonuses for winning.

@ CivGeneral: I am not sure what you mean by "Customization of Civilizations" but the going claim is that there will be a dynamic system for a lot of your civ's policies. Do you have slavery? Do you allow freedom of speech? That sort of thing.

are unqu unit icons the same as uus?

Does anyone know which sources of information the makers of civ (1-4) used and do use? Where do all these informations on history, archaeology up to modern science derive from? Does their view of history come from Toynbee or from Marx (or from GWB himself ;) ), do they have "science-advisors" from Harvard like they had in Gladiator and the other recent history-movies (not that they cared too much about implementing these informations)?
That would be interesting, especially in regard to the lots of postings in the threads about civ4, where questions of (historic) realism were raised and discussed.
There`s room for quite some speculation here, so I'm asking whether there's some "official" information available, far out there, deep in the web maybe.
Thanks,
JAN

The history you learn in your high school history class, probably, combined with an isolated few who just like to read history, or even pursued a further education in history.

I remember Sid saying in an article that for the most part they do the historical research last. They make the game first.

"Mr. Meier believes that giving players too much information can make the game too arcane or controversial for its own good. For that reason, the historical data used to construct the simulations seldom run deeper than the content of an illustrated history book for children. "

(Used to be on the CIv3 Website a long time ago)

Concerning religion, I wonder if units can be tied to them. Such as being only able to build Crusaders in a heavily Christian city(or perhaps by the strength of the religion in the entire civ), etc.

so will ther be uus? simple yes or no..

Well, for the Civilopedia entries on the barbarian/Germanic tribes in the Fall of Rome Conquest, "they" got their information from me. (I wrote some of the Civilopedia entries during the Conquests beta.)

CIV ISN'T REMAKING OF HISTORY, IT IS A NEW HISTORY. Altough, for general culture purpose, I like to pass trough the civilopedia to get infos about some civ.
@ Vietcong : I can't give you precise infos, as I don't have any, but I think there will be UU in civ4. At least, I hope. But, to my opinion, UU should be available after certin achievment, like when of your tank does something extraordinary, you can build panzers, and then nobody can have panzer UU. But it would need development

if thers no uu its going to SUCK!!

I know what u r talking about Vietcong, I really love unique units and have alot of uninque units for the Romans. and yes it will suck if it dosent have unique units.

I like UU's alot, I think they give each civ a bit of uniqueness, hopefully they will be in civ4 :)

I'm cool with UUs. But I'd also like to have the option to disable UUs, or make them available to everyone on the tech tree, or make them available to everyone at the Civ choice screen.

Again, who's to say that in an alternate reality, Greece builds the world's greatest tank, or the USA builds a brilliant adaptation of the Musketman?

i think uus are needed, as every great civilazation had some outstanding millitary uniy

But there's no reason to hardwire it. You should have the option. Civ is not just about replaying history, but rewriting history if you so choose.

Which is why the 41 unit promotions sounds interesting..perhaps one of the 'high level' promotions for a unit allows you to produce a UU for that unit. (ie a victorious elite* tank becomes an elite* panzer and lets you build panzers... a victorious elite* swordsman gives you a choice of getting legions, Immortals or Gallics) [Not exactly but approximately]
