Civ 4 running slow for vista

Hey
I went through the forum because my civ 4 is running kinda slow when i play in huge maps and when i come later in the game when the entire map is revealed.
Now in the posts here they said something about a freeRAM xp, does this work on vista aswell? If no, what works on vista??
Except shutting down my anti-virus i dont know what else to do to make my game run faster and seeing as i have a 1.8 ghz it should be working fine
