"Civ 4 Sucks!" A vain attepmt to address the many complaints.

No, I'm "pretending" to be someone who was a beta tester for Civ3 and now works for the company that made C3C with Firaxis.

But it should be noted that the key to communication is brevity. He eloquent statement could be summed up in one phrase: Don’t judge a book by its cover! All of us are guilty of prejudice. We have made our decision based on glimpses and hearsay. If someone treated you with such malice without first getting to know you as a person, you would be pissed. For a game that has given us all so many hours of enjoyment, the least we can do is give a test spin before passing sentence.

You're kidding right? Am I the only one who thinks this paragraph is dripping with sarcasm? For those of you who don't remember vanilla Civ, PTW (especially), and C3C, they were terrible initial releases of the game that took months of patches just to make it reasonable. I'm not just talking about patching gameplay issues, but fixing game-crashing bugs too. I know some of you out there couldn't even play the game until the first round of patches came out. That is unacceptable for such a franchise. A lot of people complained about "I don't want to pay $50 to be a beta-tester!", yet they are here again, all pre-ordered up for the game. Even in these forums, there is still a desire for support for civ3 and C3C, I know of several bugs that could easily be fixed, but the game stopped being supported relatively soon after release. *sigh* I guess Im the only one who cares.

By the way, I will be buying Civ4 because I think its a great series, I'll just wait until its a little more polished (At least a week or two) incase the gameplay turns out to be a big disappointment.

H Class now really. Thats the worst use of quotation since I got cable and started watching fox news. And I'm not saying that your arguement is compleatly illegitimate. Consumers serve a purpose in giveing feedback and constructive critique of a companies product. But to think that they haven't listened to our worries/complaints is a rather biased opinion. I'm a realist about this and expect Civ 4 to be inperfect as far as maitaince and number of cities goes I'm afraid that I can't tell you how I like them or not. I haven't seen the new dynamics in action so I'm suspending judgement. I have to go to class. Latez peeps.

p.s.

Okay now thats the worst quotation ever. And don't give me crap I'm just playing with you... Please don't hate me :D

This post is 3 time shorter than the very first one in this thread.
You are a quick learner, really! :)

I am sorry, but I still can't believe you (in the queue up to give answer matter)... until you prove it... very sorry.

I'm willing to buy that he was a beta tester for Civ 3. I just want to know what the heck that thing is he's using as an avatar.

It's the Purple Tentacle from the classic video game, "Maniac Mansion".

You didn't miss much, IMHO. I never enjoyed that adventure game. I had loads more fun with the King's Quest series. Sorry, I'm way off-topic now, so I'll shut up.

Ouch! Now you are hitting below the belt. I can take hClass's lack of faith as natural, but disparaging PT and DOTT, that is just too much.

 Are you saying Maniac Mansion is better than the King's Quest franchise?

MM, maybe not, DOTT definitely better. The pinacle of the old school adventure game.

hclass, I can tell by your posts you are sorry, but please, if you are trying to be apologetic use 'I apoligize' because 'I am sorry' infers a pathetic existence in life.

Anyways, I for one trust warpstorm. He is very believable as I have been on teh forums for a while now. Back in pre-C3C days(before being made a beta) and after C3C was released he made some predictions based on info he claimed was from his friends on the inside (That is, hclass, people that he knows that work for on near the company making the game) and what he said was either 95% accurate or dead on. I for one have come to trust him. If he says something I know from the evidence I have seen that he is right.

If warpstorm were to say that Civ4 will contain 3 hours of video hidden and only released by winning on teh hardest level on March 15th at 3AM I would believe him.

On Topic, I agree with the thread starter: The game is not out let, we have little info of the big picture. Wait until it is released. If you still do not like it learn to mod it because they give you that ability. For all we know these screenies and videos are 8 months old and Sid is playiung a sick and evil joke on us all just for a good laugh.

hclass, you've been around how long? Judging by your post count it's not been a very long time.

Now tell you what... Go do a SEARCH on "Warpstorm" and look for all posts that he's done, and the threads he's been in and see if anyone from Firaxis actually answered him.

Warpstorm has been around a very long time, and yes, he has gotten questions answered becasue he's generally patient, and reasonable and not demanding instant gratification and full of pessisism like some (read: 'you').

So put your money where your mouth is and do a search and actually, you know, learn a bit before you continue posting and looking even worse than you do now. :D

Some friendly advice, nothing more, nothing less. :)

I totaly agree with the Voice, but I do hope that the game will be "ready" and for the most part bugfree (I know to much to hope for but still...)

I have no idea if the game is good, bad or ugly.

But when I see "everything can be moded" it irks me.

To me it means:"everything is bad so make it better yourself...but pay us full price"

I am a game buyer.NOT A GAME MAKER.The onus is on the maker to get my money..not the other way round.

You've heard of Counter-Strike? Most famous mod ever?

Well, I am a game maker, but I agree with this. The game better be good out of the box. I will be one of the first to complain if I do not enjoy the game as is.

To me, modability is an extra (even if it is an extra loudly asked for by the community). The game must stand on its own merits, not the promise that somebody will mod the game tobe fun.
