I am on a windows XP 64

When I first got and installed civ 4, it worked perfectly. Then I installed the 1.74 patch and I got an error message saying that I needed to reinstall the game. When I tried reinstalling at first, it said the a ReadMemoryProcess was not read. Once I tried installing Civ 4 onto a different computer, it froze. Then I tried cleaning the disk, the nwhen I tried to install it an error message came up that said that Civilization vers. 1.74 was already installed. Then I deleted any remaining Civlization files (manually deleted, I had already uninstalled it through add/remove programs when I got the first error). When I search My Computer there are no remaining Civ IV files but the computer still thinks that the game is installed.

I am dumb when it comes to computers so I might be doing something stupid.

Welcome to CFC :band:

you have been the victim of an insanely badly written error message from microsoft. What they meant to tell you was to reinstall DirectX:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...38-db71-4c1b-bc6a-9b6652cd92a3&DisplayLang=en

now set your operating system to show hidden files.
then look for and delete the following folder:
"...\Program Files\InstallShield Installation Information\{CFBCE791-2D53-4FCE-B3FB-D6E01F4112E8}"
then restart the computer
reinstall the game
patch to 1.61
patch to 1.74
make sure you reinstalled DirectX9c

Civ 4 won't uninstall. I patched the program, and the next time i tried to start an error came up that said "can not find (numbers and letters)" so, I went to add/remove programs and tried to uninstall. here is what came up when i pressed details:
