I dont know if this question has been made before, but I would like to know if now we will be able to choose a final era as we choose a starting era. I ask that because i want to know if we will finally can play a game on civ that gunpowder wont exist, and it will only exist swords and bows until the end of the game.
Thanks

There is also a Musketeer movement 2 strength 20. Civ 5 video :29.

One fairly straightforward way to implement that would be to increase the beaker cost for techs, either across the board or for specific eras. That should be modable. It won't give you a "hard" finish in a certain era, but it will take say 50 turns to research Gunpowder in the 1900s.

so, there isnt an option to make tech stops on medievel era?

It's not known if there is or there isn't.

But I think just stopping research at a certain stage with everything else at normal would unbalance the game.

i dont understand why... why cant i play just in the medieval era?

got that, they are in Unique Units subcategory

Miss one of the Social Policies

It was in the earlier post.

Also, 2K Greg add some information in this post http://forums.civfanatics.com/showpost.php?p=9379238&postcount=30

Do you have a link to the original interview

Gamespot interview with lead designer John Shafer (video and transcript):

The gold/science/culture/espionage slider has gone. Let me repeat that: THE SLIDER HAS GONE!

Bigger change than going from tiles to hex or 1upt IMO.

Thank-you I had missed that

Now only one each type of unit (Millitary/Naval/Economic)hex, this includes cities

However, some unit types, like Air & Missile unit will be allowed stack on one tile allowing Aircraft Carriers and Missile Subs. (Strana Igr)

WHY?!
Given that effective armies are built around combined arms and a concentration of force [and it is possible to have 1.8 million people attending a single event in one location (eg. the US President's inauguration)], having this restriction will change the feel of the game from an epic, world-spanning conflict to a tiny backyard battle with the same idiotic combat restriction as 'LotR-Third Age' where combatants have to swap in and out of battle. The idea of "seeing waves of enemies advancing across the terrain" does little to whet my appetite when concealing your movements is such an effective military strategy.
The rest of the ideas seem ok-good but i wont be buying Civ V if this feature is included.
If they want to fix the way units are created and fight, i advocate the idea that's been put forward to make it more like an updated version of Alpha Centauri (or better yet, Master of Orion2).
I disagree with the complaint that this would decrease the historicity of the game because:
1) Historically, discovering a particular technology didn't suddenly allow a culture to produce a particular military unit.
2) Each culture uses the particular resources it has in its own most effective way. Axemen, Chariots, Macemen, Tanks etc. are NOT universally part of military history.
Firaxis have done an awesome job with Civ IV and their decision to embrace the modding community was pure genius. Perhaps a modder will fix this momentary lapse should Civ V have this silly restriction.

:( You're right, i should have joined the discussion ages ago - ah well..
Que Sera Sera
As i said, Firaxis & Co. have done a great job so far...

I think you should give it a chance. You might really like it. Even if you don't, the level of moddability that they've promised is such that one of the first mods will definitely be a stack combat mod, so worst case scenario you just wait a few days for the mod.

Sam Ro's criticism of one-unit-per-tile is essentially valid. This brings us again to a basic problem in Civilization that has never been solved, i.e. the different dynamics between concentrated armies fighting "battles" in previous eras versus the continuous fronts of the recent past (as far as conventional major wars are concerned). The developers have always compromised in order to streamline play and allow players to allow the game to emphasize non military dimensions of the game.
This new compromise will again be inadequate as it trades one set of unrealistic absurdities for another. Siege weapons in ancient/medieval times that you are not even allowed to escort is beyond silly, in fact, it is downright insulting in its absurdity, but likewise, a modern infantry line that cannot be dug-in directly with anti-tank weapons is equally bizarre. We can all think of more examples. The obvious solution that would quickly resolve a large percentage of the problem would be to allow limited stacking. 3 units would seem adequate.
That would still not be perfect but when combined with the fewer units that will be allowed, it would amount to a compromise that could be understood and accepted without severe cognitive dissonance. I know that others have suggested something like that already but this bears repeating over and over until the brain trust finally understands how important this is to a significant portion of their clients.

I'm sure one of the better Modders will be able to create a mod that allows players to stack more than one unit per tile. Having said that, it would be nice if firaxis could make it optional to have more than one unit per tile as part of the game setup process.

Thanks revengeofmakno. I agree with everything you've said there. (Again, sorry for coming late.)

Did anyone here play 'Master of Magic'? Personally, i liked the 8-9 unit stack limit - not to mention the zoomable-battle. (Am i being old-fashioned? :old:)
