I played through the tutorial just fine. Took about a week. Now, I go to load a custom single player match, and it force quits itself during the loading screen. I've tried several different set ups to see if that was it. No dice.

edit: Computer info -
Core i5 | P55 UD3L mobo | Palit nVidia GTX 260 OCZ 2x2GB DDR3 | WinXPSP3

I got it to work. I set the video settings to default. I guess my computer isn't as B.A. as I thought haha!

What could I do to run the video settings on max? What upgrades do I need? More RAM? Overclock GPU?

I'm starting to doubt that. What makes Windows 7 so special? And why would it run in the tutorial but not custom?

Some people over at buildyourown.org.uk are trying to help figure it out. Currently looking at temperatures when the CPU is under hard usage.

You would need:
- Windows 7
- A new graphics card, from the last 2 generations

This is not entirely true. There is still a big issue with corrupted files from steam. After the last patch .217, I had to validate 88 times to "correct" the updated game.

The only thing "at" recommended specs for my computer is my XP is service pack 3, and I have 2 gig of ram. Everything else is below. I had no trouble with the demo, but only after I purchased the game. Also none of the demo saves I have will work in the purchased game.

Only Windows 7 supports DirectX11, which is responsible for the "fanciest" graphic effects.
Same for the graphics card (e.g. WinXP only supports DX9, your graphics card DX10 [not sure]).

Bug, i'd say.

Saw that comment, yeah, something is definitely going wrong there. But i guess it's not related to performance problems.

I haven't used Steam for Civ5 btw. So that's out.

If the fellas over at BYO and I can figure it out, I'll let you all know. In the meantime, could we get some more ideas going?

I have Windows 7 64 bit and a new hard drive on the way anyway, so we will see if that helps.

You have to options here:
- You used Steam
- Or you don't talk about it, don't request any help from here, and leave this forum as fast as you can.

Huh? I just meant that I bought it at GameStop and haven't played online...

Oh, sorry, i missunderstood your post.
Because you might know it, every Civ5 version is tied to Steam, so the only possibility not to use Steam is to pirate it. And we don't have any tolerance for pirates.

Back to topic: I still think it's a general bug in there. The game has, like also timtofly mentioned, quirks at every end, and seeing something like that does not really supprise me.

True enough. I tried the latest nvidia driver and it actually LOWERED my FPS using the default settings. So, back to my 192 beta drivers. :)
