really wanna play civ5 but my mac seems not good enough to play.

did anyone run civ5 well on a MacBook:

2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
2 GB 1067 MHz DD3

If it can run once I upgraded to OS X 10.6.4 and add extra 2GB RAM, then I will rush to buy them.

Is anybody can help?

Video card is the big issue. Civ V will not run smoothly without a massive video card.

Which MacBook? As mentioned, video card is important. MacBooks as recent as 12-18 months ago have cards unsupported by Civ V because they are too weak.

I've gotten through on a 9400M card, small map, min video settings, in Boot Camp, but it wasn't terribly smooth. Haven't attempted that on the Mac side - unsupported, and probably worse performance than that.

My 3-yr old iMac runs ok though, ATI 2600 HD, up to Standard size map, again min video settings.

If my memory is still working, my MacBook bought at 2009 Jan.

You're below system specs so it is going to be rough,
I have the same laptop, you should play in strategy mode

Well, actually I think it is called the strategy layer, it is completely playable, but uh... it is missing some eye candy

@cww2: I have the 9400M on my late 2009 iMac. (3.06 GHz C2D) I can play with all graphics settings on minimum at standard map/time settings. I do have 4GB of RAM, which probably helps. It does stutter, but is definitley playable. Course I do intend to upgrade, I just want a little more money first.

@janthony: same here, need money to upgrade. u at least have a 3GHz CPU, my one is only 2GHz. that s y I am so struggle. I have bought the game already now waiting for the OS upgrade and will try afterwards.

I have a macbook with Nividia 9400, and 2gb, and it runs at all low settings. Would going up to 4gb help at all?

civ_king, you have one of these white Macbooks and you can run a map that big in Strategic view? I'm going to start doing that I guess! Looks a little like Civ I in that view .

No, actually I can't run one that big, that's just a generic screenshot, but yes Strategy layer boosts the area you can see and it also helps turn processing

I'm playing a large map great in the strategic layer currently.

I have a mbp and the graphics get blurry on huge maps after some time, and then after anything I try the blurry (or grey or red/ white stuff) comes again. The game gets unplayable. I have a 9400 and the 9600 gt (the dual graphics card 2.6Ghz model from 2009 or so, if I am not mistaken.
If they had something in- between normal mode and strategy mode it would rock. I do not need their fancy graphics, absolutely hate them.
