Civ 5 Religion Mod

Taking Zamp's ideas and developing them. We have some great risks of stereotyping here, but here would be my thoughts:

Hinduism is known for its pluralism.
So I suggest that influence with city states is greatly increased (like Philanthropy and/or Greek UA)

Buddhism is known for encouraging peaceful states of being and building huge monuments!
So I would suggest zero :c5unhappy: for number of cities and +20% :c5production: for wonders (like a part combination India/Egypt UA)

Judaism's greatest modern contribution may be through the arts, journalism and finance.
So I would suggest +5%:c5culture: increasing by +5% for each later era with better communication, and +10%:c5gold:, both empire-wide.
Christianity is an evangelical religion with a strong work ethic.
So I would suggest +0.5:c5production:/city population point in each city and +15% troop bonus.
Islam is an evangelical religion with a trading and science contribution.
So I would suggest +10%:c5science: and +10%:c5gold: empire-wide, and +15% troop bonus.

Confucianism is known for the importance it puts on social structure.
So I would suggest new social policies should be cheaper to get by 33%. (like Free Speech/Redentor)

With no adopted religion, there is more freedom for original thought.
All science buildings (libraries etc.) are more effective with all normal +50% bonuses rising to +75%, plus +25%:c5greatperson:Scientist points.

Taoism (missed by Zamp) could emphasize the acceptance of and working with natural flow.
So I suggest -50%:c5unhappy: for number of citizens, plus units have no terrain penalty in friendly territory.

Confucianism is inherently anti-change. They want to maintain social order and are extremely conservative. I'd say they should get bonuses in other areas but make it harder to pick up new social policies in my opinion.

You guys forgot Greek mythology!

No one forgot it, it was INTENTIONAL! We don't like their kind here! naa jk.
Your absollutly right, it should be called hellenism - just like in the Overlord mod by Keldath. ^^

Confucianism is inherently anti-change. They want to maintain social order and are extremely conservative. I'd say they should get bonuses in other areas but make it harder to pick up new social policies in my opinion.

That's a good idea, however, I wonder if its possible to make the player's civ to decide on it's own civic changes or decisions as such...
I remember that in civ1 the Senate always ran off to make peace with the enemy behind my back and enforce it on me while I was trying to conquer the world, in an enlightened fashion - of course.

It's not quite so much intolerant as true.

It's only true when the "religion" bars discussion and questioning instead of promoting them out of fear that the "church bureaucracy" may lose legitimacy. ;)

It depends also on your cultural inclination and definition of religion.
The terms holy and unholy which do not even mean the same in all religion - that is if they exist in those religions.

One can't can't blame religion for the lack of progress only corrupted individuals are to blame.

I mean, there was one Jewish guy in Nazareth who talked about peace and love and the next thing you know some random roman guy decides that he is god and that no one can say anything to overthrow him or challenge his position and *WHOPPAH!* you've got your "dark-ages" steam achievment.
Aha, when Jesus have said "care not for what you put into your mouth but to what comes out of it" he definitely meant that everyone should keep their opinions to themselves.
Yeah, he was clearly a tyrant that spoke against free speech and "wrong" ideas.
I was being cynical, if that wasn't clear enough.

In civ5 as in civ1 *Corruption is the problem*, if you have a centralized religion you will probably suffer of more corruption.
If you have a Tyrannical atheist empire you will suffer the same.
Food for thought: Kim jong (very) ill - not exactly the pope when it comes to piety...
Don't start with that silly "Oh he haz a cult of personality state religion" argument, lol.

Paganism may be very nice as a *no-holy city religion* that gets bonuses for the flavor of the civ its in since the common worshiper links a phenomenon to a previously existing reason(god made this\the Ginni shot the sheriff) instead of relying on facts and observations and *then* draw a conclusion - he links Daly occurrences to his pre dispose national nature = flavors.
lets say +:c5happy: for having the religion to begin with and +1 for each flavor type.
I think it will also moderate the effect that religions have on the game in the early stages.
these bonuses may become obsolete with "scientific methods".

Besides, Judaism should get +3 :c5science:
you can use you're 3g+ cellphones SMS's, Intel CPUs or Xerox machines to send me a message that proves me wrong. :P

Now seriously, there's no wrong with not agreeing with each other and have a healthy debate. Just remember that every one of us wants what's best for the game and i hope we can at least respect that.

Mutual respect is key. :)

Civ long and prosper!
