After a couple of months of playing Civ 6 and adjusting after Civ 5, what mods would you recommend me? I have noticed couple of them in Potato McWhiskeys videos, like Sukritacts simple UI adjustments.

Some of my favorites, ranging from purely cosmetic to deep gameplay influence in ramdom order:
  • Unique District Icons
  • City Lights
  • Terra Mirabilis
  • Removable Districts
  • Harvest All Resources
  • City State Introductions Reworked
  • Production Queue (not compatible with City Lights, sadly)
  • Great Works Viewer
  • Capture Unique Improvements
  • Steel And Thunder: Unit Expansions

Civilizations Expanded by @pokiehl and others is a must-have.

I forgot to mention JNR's mods. He has a really good mod series that overhauls Districts and their Buildings. :) I highly recommend them.

IMO most of the mods listed so far in this thread are NOT quality of life enhancements as the OP suggested.

I find many of Infixos "better" and "real" series mods to be very useful. "Better Report Screen" in particular is fantastic.

I also like "More Lenses" and "Tactical Camera" and "Concise UI". "Alternate Policy Screen" is a MUST.

"Global Relation Panel" is also a neat little mod.

One turn Governor move. I second the policy change reminder must have too. I would like to see some added vision at the outset (I know there are mods for that) or just give a scout at the outset.

Real Great People does a great job of showing the status of great person races than the default screen, to the point that if you turn it off, you'll be shocked that the default screen ever seemed legible.
Sukritact's Policy Manager saves you a few clicks when changing policies and, perhaps more importantly, makes it easier to look at the map while doing so.
Sukritact's Simple UI Changes makes a lot of things easier to see, without changing existing functionality or adding new screens to keep track of.

Mine are:

Interface / Quality of life:
Sukritact's Simple UI Adjustments: Allows you to view which tiles are being worked when you mouse over the city banner, among several other improvements
Sukritact's Global Relations Panel: Gives a convenient way to see the other civs' attitudes toward each other (who is at war with who, etc ...)
Sukritact's Policy Manager: Alternative way of selecting policies
Sukritact's Better Great Person Screen: Alternative great person panel
Better Report Screen (UI): More reports. It is especially useful when combined with the next mod
Alternate Policy Screen: Alternative way of selecting policy cards. Combined with better report screen, you can see how much yields the policies will give before selecting them.
Better Trade Screen: Shows how many turns a trade route will take to finish, and what yields the destination's owner will get.
Better Espionage Screen: If I'm not mistaken it allows you to see which missions are available when you are selecting a new city for your spy. (I've been using it for so long that I am not sure exactly what the difference is compared to the modless screen)
Compact Production Panel: Reduces the need for scrolling when selecting what to produce
More Lenses: I use the "city range" lense to find the best emplacements for industrial zones / entertainment complexes
Suzerain At A Glance: Displays the current suzerain on the city state banner
Repeat Future: Repeats Future Tech and Future Civic automatically so that you don't have to select the technology every few turns

Prettiness / Immersion:
Rosetta - Dynamic City Names: Translates the city names depending on the current owner (the language changes when the city is conquered)
Nomina - Dynamic Civ and Leader Names: Changes the leader titles and empire names depending on various factors (such as the current government)
Tactical Camera by Tom Illar: Greater zoom range
Unique District Icons: Does what the name says

Great work viewer will save you a lot of headaches by adding better ordering and filtering:

Alternate policy screen to have a better view of policies instead of "cards" (ugh):

along with better report screen:

These last two allow you to see the exact effect in yields of selecting a policy, which is amazing for deciding which one to pick:

I installed CQUI the other day and I'm really liking it so far. It actually integrates a bunch of UI mods mentioned above I think, my favorites being the city/CS banner stuff and the great person screen.

Also Unique District Icons, which is meant to be purely aesthetic but it might actually help you keep the distinction between your UD and the norm in mind amidst the mental flow.

My husband and I like to kind of play as a team against the AI Civs. Of course that only works well when we end up near each other. Is there a mod that will let you select where you will be on the map instead of assigning your founding city randomly? Also, is there a mod that will allow you to peacefully take city states? Like when a city from another player loses loyalty and petitions to join your civ?

I use CQUI. Improves a lot of UI overall and incorporates some other great UI mods. Great People, Trade, City screen, HUD, and map lenses are ones off my head that i really likes.

On the gameplay side I use CIVITAS City-State Expanded. On top of a bunch of CS additions it also add 2 new types and one new level of envoy bonus.

In terms of aesthetics I consider Janboruta's Better Civilization Icons a must. Changes out most of the civ (and city-state) icons for designs that both look better and make more sense for their respective civs.
