I've seen a few messages on this topic, but does anyone actually know if the civilizations in civ 3 will be locked to one colour as with the previous games?
It does seem a bit strange that you can never have a game against russians + romans or english + greeks.
I hope they do allow us to play against any combination of civilizations (especially as it looks like we're going to have less to choose from rather than more as I had hoped).

Anyone have any insider info on this? Perhaps Dan magaha could help us out on this

According to the screenshots, the Americans are still light blue. This may imply that Civ3 will be keeping the old system. On the other hand, there are now 16 civilizations. They couldn't be keeping the 3-civs-per-colour system because 16 is not a multiple of 3. Maybe they changed it to 2 or 4 (factors of 16) or maybe found 16 individual colours for the civs. They really only need 7 colours to accommodate the 7 civs per game which is apparently staying.

I hope you can play any combination of civs. But if they decide not to, they should arrange them by geographical region, i.e. having the British and Celts the same color because there's not enough room on the British Isles for the both of them (unless you use the huge-@$$ maps they promise

Quite right, this civ-colours system is a bit stupid. Even the obvious French vs German combination is impossible. Ridiculous. But still, I'm afraid this isn't considered important enough, so I don't think they'll change it. (I brought this subject up about a year ago to a couple of civ-friends, and neither of them really cared...)

I actually quite like the civ-colours feature, but for the wrong reasons. I use it to "block" the most dangerous civs from being in the game. It sucks when you have to face the mongols, greeks, and russians at once, so I play as the mongols or the indians and the mongols will not be in the game. Or I play as the greeks to block greeks and english. This is in Civ I I'm talking about, of course.

Why can't you?? I changed colors ages ago making barbarians pink, French white, etc.

Portuguese: it isn't considered a mod unless you change something that affecty gameplay. so just alter your civ3mod.bic, but do check the FAQ for some advise from Dan@Firaxis.

Generalyy, fi you want a civ in, choose it! And I've rarely seen civs blocked because of color, I usually end up with different AI every game!

I would like to know too. I just can't stand the French being PINK. Eww.

I found out from warpstorm and Firaxis that a "scenario" and a "game" are the same thing in patch 1.21f (they used to be different). When you select "New Game" that is the same as "Load scenario" with civ3mod.bic. The difference is that in "Load scenario" you can choose your .bic file. So you just have to edit some .bic file and load the scenario.

It is also possible to edit civ3mod.bic and then "New Game", but that could be risky and Firaxis urges that you not do that. In patch 1.21f it's easier (and safer) to use "Load Scenario."

In earlier patches you could change civ3mod.bic and it would apply to games started with "Start New Game" but that does not affect games already started in 1.21f, unless you load a game that was started in an earlier patch.

I made my barbs red, just like civ2 :)
