Civ Complete Problem

I have been playing Civ III (with PTW and Conq upgrades) for a very long time but my daughter moved, taking our old computer with her. So I kept a copy of my in-progress games (I play many at the same time; some are several years old), bought a new computer and Civ Complete. I can now play some of my games but others will not open, I get multiple error messages and an obnoxious beep. Any suggestions?

The old save games should be compatible no matter what version you're using. However, if you try to open a conquests save in Vanilla or PTW, it won't work. If you make sure you're playing Conquests, all your saves should open up okay.

And if not, post the error message, and we'll see what we can do.

I boot the Civ III Complete Disk and get the first screen. I click on Load File and then get several error messages such as the second. After all of the error messages are done I get the final screen. Thanks for any help you can provide.

Which version of Conquests did your old computer have?

In Civ3Complete Conquests is version 1.22 and doesn't support saved games from pre-1.20 versions

My daughter says the Conquests version is 1.0.0 - very early version. But I only ever had one version - don't think we installed any patches. But some of my games do play fine. Could the reason be that the games that play ok were created in Play the World?

Any way around this? I don't see anything on the Civ III Complete box that would indicate I might have this problem.

Complete is patched to 1.22, and as GVBN stated, pre 1.20 versions aren't supported. The Radio tech was removed, and this broke ability to load the pre 1.20 saves. Unfortunately, you'll need to start new games.

However, if you upload them to the server, we can probably extract the settings and tell you what to input so you could start the game over at 4000bc. This won't be exactly the same, and of course you'd have a pretty good idea of what's going on with the maps, but it would give you a chance to try the game again.
