CIV doesn't launch

I read that quite few people are having problems with the game crashing during map loading. In my case I can't even launch the game. I click to start the game, the 2k window opens, I select DX12 (as always), the 2k menu window closes but the game doesn't start, and after about 10 seconds steam tells me that the game is ready to start, instead of usual "game running", hence not launched. I tried it few more times, then again with DX11, I even reinstalled the whole game, but same thing happens.

Same Problem

I have tried various fixes over the internet, reinstalled steam and the game twice, reinstalled graphics drivers all to no avail. I have a ticket into 2kgames.

Snap!! Exactly the same situation here, with ticket logged. The vanilla game will work with my setup on DX11 with "all mods disabled" ticked, even though I never use external mods. Good luck!
FYI:- I use Windows 10 Pro, 8GB memory, GForce GTX 1050Ti graphics. Good luck!
 
I had a special character in my windows username. Made a new user, works perfectly! so stupid. Off to play now!

That worked for me as well, that's amazing! I tried just changing my account name with a special character and that didn't work, but as soon as I created on with no special character, it worked. I wonder though, if its a function of the special character or just being on an old profile. I am going to try to create a new account profile with special characters and see how it goes. Nice find anyone @dmorenus! You are my hero.

Good to hear, enjoy!! My username is alphabetical so doesn't seem to be my issue unfortunately. Would be interesting to know if your new test profile works LaserMike.

So, I created a new profile with special characters. It didn't work. I recreated one without and it did work. Ergo dmorenus11 is still my hero.

Half Nelson, I feel your pain brother. It is a large pain in the nether-region. I wish you the best in your struggle to make CIV VI great again.
 
Try launching on DX11 instead of DX12 ?

Do you have dual graphics cards? (sorry I dont know the proper english name for that)

For some reason, I need to disable my Intel graphics card when I launch Civ VI since the last patch. also I need to choose DX11 instead of DX12.
So I use NVIDIA card for it, which it didnt seem to choose automatically.
 
Using Fire Tuner, this is the error it reports when trying to run the game. All mods are disabled and just ran a 'start game' which is all random. This is just the base game trying to run with no user input. An error box appears even before the game comes up and before any input is made.

Thanks for these reports, we've squashed this one for the next update.
