Civ General: Possible?

As many around here i was toying about modding Civ V in a Panzer General way: smaller hexes, bigger maps and more tactical unit move and fighting.
Something like improving the game "scale" (multi hexed cities and rivers for example) also improving units move and fire range (let's say, for example a basic warrior got move 3, an horseman 6 and a tank about 10; an archer got range 2, a cannon 5 and an artillery 9 and so on).
That would make the combat more enjoyable and tactical and i'm quite confident it would convert even the most hardened 1upt haters. But...

Is this doable with the actual mooding tools?
Will it be doable in future?

You can however, place multiple cities right next to each other in worldbuilder, so it could kinda look like city sprawl. Do like a east/west Berlin or other stuff. Combine that with now cities can reach out further than ever, its would probably work out much better than in previous versions of civ.

Exactly. I was thinking the same thing.

A pure tactical game? Wow, human player wins all the time. :D

Not necessarily.

In my upcoming Roman Empire scenario which will be 90% tactical, 10% technological advancement the only playable civ will be the Romans. This allows me to make the non-playable civs as strong as I need to make it a fun and challenging scenario.

I think sprawling cities might actually be doable. I'm planning to tackle it sometime in the future, and when I do, I intend to start by looking into the lua of TreeGrowth mod for some clues. I think it's still downloadable via the browser.

I'm currently making a small mod (currently around stalingrad) with just the combat part of civ5, has a sort of lab to test some stuff and ideas.

I may release it soon to get some feedback.

My idea was to convert the Peoples General premise in a multiplayer scenario for 2 players: one controls China, the other the US, (and maybe a 3rd russian player) the battleground would be all the Asia from Moscow to Tokyo.

I got no experience in modding but this idea thrills me enough to getting started.
