Hi all, first time poster... as most people I played Civ for years on my mighty Amiga500 :)

I also played Civ2 a lot and now I got a friend that is interested in learning the game :) So I want to play a few multiplayer games against him.

Now although I obviouly own Civ3 and even the PTW expansion, I heard that multiplayer games of civ3 over the net (not lan) are laggy ... also I think civ2 will be easier to learn for him ???

Anyway, I reqearched and noticed civ2 only works online with the Gold edition, now I already own the Civ2 game.. do I have to buy the game again in it' gold reincarnation to get multi ? or can I patch my original civ2 to function online ?

Tnx

The ai is hostile, not dangerous. It is hard (bordering on impossible) to keep up friendly relations with ai civs. My experience is that if you want something, you have to "gift'em up" to worshipful and then ask for the trade/tech/gift right away. If you gift'em and go back a couple turns later, they will be icy or worse, regardless of whether you did anything to earn their hostility. AIs will end alliances after 10-20 turns if you do not keep pumping gifts into them. The ai will always sneak attack at the expiration of a cease fire. While hostile, the ai is still pretty stupid. It will not for instance, build up a really dangerous invasion force before attacking you. The ai troops will dribble into your territory in 1s and 2s, for your greater convenience in killing them.... Your friend, with no game experience at all, is probably a far more dangerous opponent than the ai! Have fun!

You can think of the A.I. as suicide bombers. They are really agressive, but they are stupid.
