There's been some pretty vocal compaining on thsi forum about CIv3. I have a hypothesis and hopefully this poll will help to verify or disprove it.

Did you play Civ2? Did you like it? Do you like Civ3?

Updated to win95 for civ2 but was disappointed by the game and put it away.

I hated civ2. Played it the least so far of the three incarnations.

Ok, so the poll doesn't really show much, except that people on this from like play Civ games.

My original theory was that the people who seem to hate Civ3, probably really like Civ 2. There was a pretty big gap between 2 and 3. During that time the Civ 2 lovers dreamed about what Civ3 would be like. And when it came there would be no way it could possibly live up to their expectations.

A friend of mine had a good metaphore. A dorky kid in junior high creams his shorts every night thinking about one of the "popular" girls. Towards the end of high school, the kid actually gets a chance to hang out with the girl, and he is completely disappointed because he's built her up in his mind.

In the same way some people (a pretty small number) creamed there shorts thinking about how great Civ3 is gonna be. To the rest of us who don't have anything built up in our minds, Civ3 rocks.
