Civ III 1.29b2 and GOTM

I've been away for a loooong time. I tried a quick search on the forum but couldn't find an answer to the question is it possible to play Civ III GOTM with Civ III version 1.29b2? Things have moved on since the last time I downloaded a GOTM start file and I get the impression my version of Civ is no longer supported. Do I need to get Civ III Complete?

Hi, welcome back.

We stopped supporting vanilla Civ3 some time ago, after Civ3 Complete was released. We still run two Civ3 xOTMs a month. The GOTMs can only be played (for submission) using Play the World, and the COTMs require Civ3 Conquests. Both are included in the Civ3 Complete package from Aspyr.

You will also discover that the old MacSoft version of Civ3 will not even run in recent versions of OS X on modern Mac hardware, so you really need to move on up to Civ3 Complete

Thanks Alan for the quick response. Now I've got a good excuse to get Civ III Complete. I'm running on a G4 DP MDD machine which I don't think will run Civ IV

Civ4 ran like a one-legged pig on my 1 GHz-upgraded G4 Sawtooth when I tried it. I'm pretty sure Civ4 doesn't know how to use dual CPUs, so I think you are right to assume it wouldn't work for you, either.
