I got a mac computer recently, and decided to get Civ III complete for it, because I loved it so much before. I managed to install it, got to the startup screen, set up a game, and as soon as I could see the map, my computer crashed. Each time I try to load it again, it never gets past the first second of seeing the map, and sometimes it doesn't even start to load the game before crashing. Can anyone help me with this???

First question:

Did you copy the software over to your Mac's hard drive, or are you trying to run it directly from the DVD? If you haven't copied it to the hard drive then that's the first thing to do. Mine lives in /Applications/, but you can put it somewhere else if you prefer. It will NOT run directly off the DVD.

Second, have you updated it with the latest Rev A patch?

If you installed it correctly, then is there a crash log when it fails? There are two ways to show the log:

1. When it crashes it should bring up a message box asking if you want to tell Apple about the crash. Click yes and you should see a window with three tabs. One is a Details tab containing the gory details of how and when the software went to pieces.

OR

2. Launch the /Applications/Utilities/Console application. This has a window with a panel on the left. In this panel, navigate to LOG FILES->~/Library/Logs->Crash Reporter->Civilization 3 Complete.crash.log and highlight it. The detailed text should show up in the right hand panel. Find the start of the latest entry at the bottom of the log. It will start with something like:

Host Name: <Your Mac Name>
Date/Time: 2008-03-22 10:45:55.878 +0100
OS Version: 10.5.2 (Build 9C31)
Report Version: X

Command: Civilization 3 Complete
Path: /Applications/Civ III Complete/Civilization 3 Complete.app/Contents/MacOS/Civilization 3 Complete
Parent: WindowServer [72]

Version: 1.22 Rev. A (1.22 Rev. A)

Either way, if you can copy and paste the first hundred lines or so of this text into a post here then we may be able to see what the problem is. It would also be useful to know what kind of Mac it is, what video hardware it has, and what version of OS X you are running.
