I have a "new" computer, a pentium I (75mhz I think) with Windows 95.
Civ works reasonably good on this system. It is not as good as in real DOS, but there is no general slow-down, just some hesitations at times. The sound is OK too (but the computer has a SB16).

Yes,civ1 is still nice with Win95 but don't hope anything with further versions...

What does the type of Windows you have, have to do with the performance of Civ? I always just exit Windows and go to DOS, and then boot Civ. Then you can be sure it works well.

Mine runs ok with XP home slow at first and as I have a laptop and no numerical pad its a little awkward doing diagonal movement. Command prompt emulator will do CIV ! but fails on MOM and 1830 as it doesn't emulate expanded (or is it extened?) memory.
