I am trying to install Sid Meier's Civilization IV: The Complete Edition, to my computer and am having difficulties. I can run Colonization, but I cannot start BtS. When I try to, I get " Boost_python-vc71-mt_1_32.DLL". I've tried searching the error around this forum and other forums as well, but I have not found anything that remedies my situation.

I tried patching from this link http://63.236.94.185/2kgames/civ4/civ4patch_1.61_zip.php but am getting this "No MySQL connection" in the top left of a blank webpage.

I'm running windows vista, and have sucessfully run BtS on my computer before when installed via civ4 disk + BtS disk.

I will do my best to provide any information required to solve this problem.
Thoughts?

Sounds like what I get when trying to start up Civ 4 via the desktop shortcut after reinstalling. ("Can't find Boost_python-vc71-mt_1_32.DLL".) Yet when I click the Civ4 startup icon in the Civ4 folder, it works fine.

Feel kinda embarassed I didn't even try that.
Of course it would be that easy to fix.
Thanks a bunch.

I am also receiving the "No MySQL connection" message". I must be dense, but I do not know how the previous response resolved this issue. What am I missing?

I probably should have stated the following. I have not updated Civ IV: Warlords for some time. I selected Advanced | Check for updates and Civ IV indicates that I need Patch_213. When I download that and try to install Patch_213, I receive a message stating: "The setup has detected that version 1.09.000 of Sid Meier's Civilization is already installed." The installation then aborts. At least one web site indicates that I should first install patch 1.61 and perhaps 1.74 before trying the later patch. When I try to download 1.61 from the 2kgames site, I receive the "No MySQL Connection" message.

Welcome to CFC!

What version of the game do you have Squiggle? Do you also have the version of Complete with Civ IV, Warlords, Beyond the Sword and Colonization, or do you have individual versions? Are they installed from a CD/DVD or downloaded from someone such as Direct to Drive? What are the current patch levels of the games?

Hi all - thanks for answering this thread. I am having trouble downloading patch 1.61 - I just got a new computer and loaded Civ on it so I thought I should get the latest patch. But I get "No MySQL connection" in my browser when I click the link. (The URL is http://63.236.94.185/2kgames/civ4/civ4patch_1.61_zip.php).

I've tried with Chrome and Explorer but same result. Tried searching the web and this forum but this is the only related thread I could find - without an answer for the original guy's question about MySQL issue!

Really grateful for anyone who can help me resolve this!

Many thanks,
Neville

Here is what I did to fix the problems in windows 7:

First I was getting the boost_python error, I uninstalled civ 4 and warlords. I then Installed the Civ 4 and Civ 4 Warlords expansion using these steps and it worked fine:

Install Civ 4 in Windows xp service pack 3 mode be sure to run the install as administrator
Install 1.74 update, install it in windows xp service pack 3 mode, and be sure to run the install as administrator
Install Civ4 Warlords in Windows xp service pack 3 mode and be sure to run the install as administrator
Install the 2.13 Update in windows xp service pack 3 mode and be sure to run the install as administrator

(If you don't do this you will still get the d3dx9_32.dll error)
Install JUNE DireckX 9.0c here http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/confirmation.aspx?id=35

Then you will have to run the program in Windows vista service pack 2 compatibility mode.

If you don't know how to run things in in the different compatibility modes, you need to right click on it go properties, then up top there is a compatibility tab. Its in there
