If Civ IV has a disapointing editor will you bother getting it?
Will you bother if you cant make scenarios?
Will you be happy if it Just has a map editor?

Personaly, I dont know if i will get it without a great map editor.
I really wish that they would post a screenie of the editor. :)

i very rarely indulge in modding or creating my own maps..i have tried and just never have the patiance..or finish and realize my continent is the only one worth a hoot because i knew id be there..lol

I'd like to see downloadable tools to become available for modding/creating your own units/leaderheads/graphics, and not have to buy hundreds of dollars in software to do it. If it works for SIMS...

And I want easier interface with modding gameplay concepts like religion, the Civilopedia, leaderhead graphics, and the tech tree.

I'd still buy the game, but I would hope for more flexibility (ala Civ2) with the editor, especially given highly moddable games like SIMS.

I will be happy, if they add good working editor. I like making my own maps, but could live without them.

Since they are using Python and XML for nearly everything, it won't really matter to me as I've got good tools for using them already.

Well, If they make a decent editor, they can easily make exp packs and sell them :)
So they will make at least some decent editors, but we will definitely not get the best one :)

Even if I wern't able to coustomize anything, civ 4 would still be worth the 50 bucks, considering it is all I do every day.

Sorry, I don't understand the poll. Does the editor come with the game or you have to buy it separately? If it comes with the game, then the first option is confusing. What wouldn't you buy, the game? Even if the editor only allows you to make maps, I would buy the game. I need another poll option that says so.

The editor will come with the game. Updated versions and maybe some extra things provided by Firaxis we will probably have to d/l. EDIT: I think the AI SDK is to be released a couple of weeks after the game

All I want from the editor is a more streamlined process. The Civ 3 editor was good except there always can be more adjustable gameplay options (hopefully in Civ 4.) But it always annoyed me that adding things to the game and adjusting their values took so long for every map (given that I wanted as many kinds of units as I could get my grubby little hands on). If we could import presets set by others it would really save time. That and adding featues like we saw in the community utilities such as adding lines to the Civilopedia and Pediaicons etc. from within the editor.

The second thing would be to do with defaults - like can we change the scale or size of maps to make them as big as we want, buggy or not. Can we adjust the levels of development or the effects of gameplay elements - or on an advanced level can we expand on existing elements or easily add new things like natural disasters that don't exist in the vanilla game. The scripting language, SDK and less hardcoded material says we can probably do all these things. And hopefully easily.

My anticipation for Civ 4 is growing every day but I would like to see more features including ones that most users will not need. The option that sounds best is "As long as I can make my own maps, but J.C. I hope the editor is pretty powerful."

I think the editor is an essential part of Civilization. I will buy the game even if it comes without an editor but I won’t play as much as if I can make my own scenarios. Most of the time I customize my games so I get the type of game I like.

Editor is a must. How else could I cut out the industrial and modern ages and play the game only from ancient to the age of sail?

Judging by what they're saying, you will be able to change almost any aspect of the game. I am hoping for an editor that lets you do it all, the exception being graphics and artwork.

I'm hoping for the same except .... why not graphics and artwork? I was always sort of disappointed with civ3 by forcing ppl to write out ini's manually and so on, when it could very easily have been a feature in one of the expansions to make it a "browse for file" point and click affair with previews of the animations and so on. Or at least implement features like the MultiTool right in the official editor that would at least just bring up the pedia entries and so on for you. There's no reason it couldn't write them in by itself either, leaving you only to select your flics and jpegs by browsing and to write the civpedia entries (in a box in the editor, not in Notepad). I find that it's very annoying to have to do all this manually in civ3 when it was all doable from the civ2 editor. It's not so bad if you're just adding one or two units but it's a real headache to add a couple of dozen, and the way I see it there's no reason for it to be.

As for maps, I really don't care if I can make maps or not. It's more important that I can include new units, change existing ones, and modify rules.

I will not buy Civ4 without a decent editor. I do not like the default units, art, rules and so on. With a good editor you can more or less create your own game. Plus, if editing is difficult, or if creating units is difficult, there will not be as many modders and not as many units and game mods created by fans, which will be a real drag.

I was a little confused with the poll as well. Regardless of how good the editor is, I will not buy it. I will buy the game, regardless of the editor.

Because Firaxis never built one for their own use. The industry uses Max and Maya, it would cost to much to make even a cheap knock-off.

Civ4 will ship with an editor. We know that.
And since we know that Civ4 will be highly moddable, what leads anyone to believe that the editor won't be good by itself?

well, I guess looking at the CIV3 Editor, migth let some people wonder if we're really going to get a good one for CIV4. I remember what made CIV2 such a great game was the in my opinion great editor which allowed to set almost anything that was possible in the game.
