CIV IV for dummies

Sure; but by putting it on a farm, you will grow, get more citizens, and be able t work mines in the end; with only what is on the screen, at size 7 you will get 13 hammers, getting your aqueduct in 24 turns :)

If I click (-) on that citizen it takes twice as long to build anything.

Of course, it has to grow some food first so another citizen can be created that can be put on a Hill. Why on earth would you create a Citizen specialist with your only citizen is beyond me. Your city will never grow like that. There are plenty of tiles there that can let you build something and still have a surplus of food. I see a couple of Lumbermills that will give you 2 Hammers and 1 Food and still allow your city to grow, though slowly. And you obviously have Biology so you no doubt also have Machinery and can build a bunch of Watermills along that river. A Citizen is an absolutely useless specialist which you never create unless there's absolutely no choice.

An unspecialized citizen will give you one hammer before modifiers. Working the farm, you will lose the hammer, but gain three food which will increase the rate of growth, which will allow you to work more tiles and, hence, increase production in the long run.

If what you want is hammers, put the citizen to work on the forest.

Is it best for all your cities to be the same religion?

What is the best government to have? When you research something new should you always chose anarchy and a new government?

No, just click on the farm or the forest. Don't use the + and- next to citizen at all at your level (Warlords) - no need.

Always combine several civic changes in one to save turns for anarchy. Read the texts to understand whether you want to have a certain civic at a particular time of the game.
Aim to have Universal Suffrage, Nationhood, Emancipation, Free Market, Organized Religion in the end game at your level. (this is a sensible topic and many people have different opinions about which is the best combination, but for beginners I believe this is best)

Religion equal happiness. At your level this means as more religions in one city as more happiness as better.

Is it best for all your cities to be the same religion?

It's best to have all your cities be the state religion you've chosen. You only get happiness from a religion if it's your state religion, unless you're using the Free Religion civic.

What is the best government to have?

You mean civic, ther are no governments in Civ 4. But it all depends on what's going on in your game at the time. You''l have to learn how all the civics work and judge accordingly.

When you research something new should you always chose anarchy and a new government?

No, look at your options and judge by what's happening in your game. There's even a tip about this when your game loads up.

Why does the Indian empire have fast workers?

It's their UU. Other civs get military units, they get Fast Workers. In a way they're the best UU in the game since they're available right from the start and never become obsolete.

And at then end of the game, if you have lotsa cities, State Property is the best economic civic.

Unless you manage to get the right great people for the food/hammer corps, in which case Free Market can become much, much stronger.

Many different ways to win! :king:

When I click on a city and click on the tiles that are in the corners of the map it goes back to the main screen. How can I click on these tiles?

you mean, the tiles at two distance in diagonal from the center of the city?

You cannot select them. A city can only work the 20 tiles around it: all the tiles in the 5*5 square around the city, except the corners.

Borders help you to secure resources, to forbid access to other players in case of close borders, to forbid other settlers to settle there, to slow the enemy when he attacks you, to help you to win by domination, to increase your score... tons of stuffs. But the city's BFC remain as it is: maximum 20 squares.

When I select a group of my units and move them to the next square to fight with the enemy, why doesn't the whle group fight at once? I have to do it one at a time, even if I press group. What am I doing wrong?

Also, what resource do you need to build knights and cavalry?

In CIV, you fight unit after unit, not by group. There is a functionality in the option which is called "stack attack", but all what it does is automatically select your units to fight those of the opponent until it is dead. If you want to progress, this is not a good feature.

All the informations you need for that kind of thing (what do I need) are in the civilopedia (f12). You need horses for both, and iron for knights.
