Civ IV Gold won't recognize play disc

I'm not sure if I just have a buggy disc or if there is some kind of fix. But yesterday I picked up Civ IV Gold Edition, install and everything went fine. However, whenever I go to play it, it won't recognize the play cd-rom (I'm using Disc 1), and keeps giving me the "Cd-rom not found...." error. It has worked, and actually loaded one time though, and I was able to play. Thanks for any help.

Also, I'm running Windows 7, if that matters at all.

Thank you for the introduction lol. But yea, I did, and it seems to work at its own pace, sometimes it will work, other times it won't. It took me about 5times the most recent time I tried to play (including having to take the disc out of the disc tray and put it back in).
