Hello guys and gals-

My brother and his wife and daughter are big board gamers (like Settlers of Catan and stuff like that). My brother hasnt played Civ since the first PC game (and he also had the board game back in the day). I bought the Civ IV complete pack for him yesterday when it was on sale at Steam for $7.49 in hopes that I could get him interested to play me. He wants to know if his wife and daughter would be able to play, too.

Am I right that the way to make this work would be to buy THREE copies of the game that they all use on different computers with different Steam accounts from the same house? Or would even that not work?

In summary, I want to play Civ IV versus my brother and his family. The three of them will be in one house, I will be at my house two hours away. How do I make it happen?

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

I don't know about the steam side of things, but for making it work I would suggest everyone installs and uses the k-mod as it virtually eliminates out of sync errors, then play via direct IP connection. One player, probably you, as the host and everyone else connects to that computer's IP address. K-mod can be found here( the fastest, most stable internet connection should be the host, but if you play with simultaneous turns someone gets burned on that....)

If you are on a router you will most likely have to forward the ports. That information is here

Note that the K-mod AI is much, MUCH better then vanilla AI. It is also a combination of the bug, bat, and bull mods and maybe others as well .So the mod provides other improvements in the games interface, i.e. things like how much gold will actually be provided by building a market place at your current slider settings. All the modders of BTS really need to give themselves a big pat on the back for making a great game that is deep and complex into an incredible game with many entertaining variations.
