Civ IV Reference Charts

Hi,

I've updated the sheets to version 3.17. Have fun.

:thanx: I've noticed a very minor niggle. The legend in the Technology Tree Flow Chart refers to v1.73 rather than v1.74. Perhaps you could update it if you're editing the spreadsheet for something else.

Hey,

New patch asks for updated charts. It doesn't seem that too much has changed for the sheets. But this is also a nice time to fix any typos. So I ask y'all to post here any incorrect stuff you have found in the sheets.

Thanx for your help

Perhaps I'm late, but the following cells have typos:

Civilizations Civ4 tab: E4, E5, D8 says spirtual, should be spiritual
Civilizations Warlords tab: E4, E5, D7, D10 says spirtual, should be spiritual
Terrain and Resource Yields tab: G46 says +0.4 should be +0.5, yes?

Error report: (After editing this post so many times, I figured I'd better number each item, in case someone comments on something or refers back to it and wonders why there's so much more than they remember.)

  1. The Courthouse entry on the City Buildings page doesn't list the ability to assign a Spy specialist. (Found it in the 3.13 version just now, and as I moved to report it, I found you'd released the update.)
  2. Also, the Jail's +4 EPs aren't mentioned in the Espionage column. In fact, you can remove the BTS tag from that line, because Espionage is BTS only anyway. (Or move it to the top of the column to show the whole column is BTS.)
  3. And you forgot to update your changelog.
  4. And you didn't set any freeze-panes. Most pages need that.
  5. In Unique Buildings, you have listed the cost of the Sacrificial Altar in the Additional Effects. You should list the cost of the Courthouse to compare it to, eg: "costs 90 vs 120". I thought it was a typo for a moment (as in, redundant). You can do the same for Cothon.
  6. Technology Advances tab, you misspelled "Cothon" in cell H23.
  7. Also, I don't see on that sheet or the Flow Chart where Castles become obsoleted.
  8. It wouldn't hurt to have a column for when buildings go obsolete (this would be for both Buildings sheets and the Wonders sheet).
  9. This would probably require a new thread to hash out, but it might be helpful to list, with the civs, a column that says which victory condition is best pursued with that particular leader. I'm not nearly versed enough in the game to do it myself, but I often see advice on "use this civ for this kind of victory" in threads.
  10. Cell I76 on the Units tab: Guided missles upgrade to Fighters? New, or typo?
  11. The styles of the Unique Buildings and Unique Units pages are inconsistent with each other. Pick one and modify the other accordingly. (I prefer the UB page's style, myself, with all items in a single list, and the left-most column being the civ.)

Ok, now I have to beat the living crap out of you because you locked the bleeping thing and I can't even move the useless sheets out of my way!!! :trouble: What the hell?!? :gripe:

You should be able to disable the locking by going into Tools > Protection > Remove Protection... (or something like that, I don't have an English speaking Excel right here). It doesn't seem to be password protected.

@TheDS,

Thank you for your detailed list. I'll see what I can include, but if you could help me on the new additions stuff that would be great. I'm not behind my Civ computer so I cannot check the individual points but I will do so in a few days probably. I especially like the obsolete list although most buildings obsoleting techs are listed there but not in a special column which would be clearer. I'll see what I can do.

The locking of the tabs I couldn't remember doing :mischief:, but you can disable it as RobO mentioned.

yes, I tried that.

Maybe it's just Office2007 being stupid? Queer that it let me edit cell contents and stuff, but not move or even hide or delete sheets. I dunno. I don't have the problem with sheets that I created, whether long ago or recently, just this one. And Help is... its usual self (useless).

Just monkeying with it some more now, and I tried entering a password, and it then locked the sheet, so I entered it again and it unlocked it again. So this isn't your typical locking mechanism, this is something different. I would think something akin to macro protection, but I've enabled macros, enabled trust int he trust manager, and there's no other prompts coming up.

yeah, I just found the document lock, and it's disabled, so that's not the problem either. Man I hate MS! I can't even get help from them without paying some fee for it. Oh well, I'll think of something.

My Civ computer is in the shop, and will be for a while. I'm hesitant to install it on this one just to answer a couple questions. :/ I only found those problems because I was looking for an answer to some questions I got in threads here (didn't want to assert something without checking first), or because I was just twiddling with the look.

Truth be told, I'm also hesitant to send THIS COPY to anyone else, for fear it will remain screwed up. And I'm very likely to massively "fix" it to look the way I want it to. I've done it most of the way to a couple of your past editions, but I went through a Civ-drought and didn't finish, and I also got tired of all the work going to waste when a new patch came out.

But if my current project suddenly peters out, I'll see what I can do.

Shablam!!!! I found the problem. Apparently there IS another setting that prevents you from moving tabs around, because when I turned it off, I could move the little buggers. Woo hoo!!! :woohoo:

For anyone else having the same problem, go to Review > Protect Workbook and uncheck Protect Structure and Windows.

I still edit it in Excel 2003 b/c when I save it in 2007 the formatting is screwed up sometimes and I don't assume everyone has 2007 yet. I basically keep it around just for editing the sheets.

TheDS, maybe you can send me one of your old versions by PM for inspiration and I'll see what I can add. It won't be any major turnaround of the sheets though b/c I don't think it's worth the work at this time of the Civ4 life.

Yeah, it'll be a while before 2007 is ubiquitous. I also seem to notice it ballooning my files. One I just edited, all I did was adjust a row-height so a word could be displayed fully, then resaved, and the file size went from under 600k to over 1000k. WTF?!?!

Aaaannyway....

I dug up a couple old sheets I modded a little and posted them somewhere; I PM'ed you with the link so you could have a good laugh. :) (Couldn't figure out how to attach to a PM.)

I couldn't find the one I made from scratch, but it wasn't as fancy as yours, is why I stopped even worrying about it. I'd swear, though, there was one I modded significantly, but I didn't see it in my collection of back-issues. Maybe I'm remembering something else.

Thank you for your PM. I saw some nice additions, so stay tuned.
With 2007 I especially notice the tech charts going crazy so I'll stay with 2003 until civ5 :crazyeye:

BTW, you mention the macros in the PM but I'll react here as others might find it also usefull as well.

The macros only take care of a bit of formatting. When the sorting button on some pages were included way back, I created a small function to color the lines properly. This way no matter what you select you should get alternating white/yellow rows. That's all there is to it. All functions are worksheet functions and don't require macros. I'll mentioned it on the title page in the next version, just to be clear about it.

Awesome work here Michelangelo! Many thanks :hatsoff:

All righty, I did some more monkeying around tonight, and found the following:

  1. In the Promotions Flowchart, several of the boxes need to be tweaked. I see text hidden or partially hidden in a few of them, and impinging on pictures in several of them (notably the Combat ones). Most of these can be fixed by making the box a little wider or adding a space or two before the text in question.
  2. Unique Buildings page, the Aztec Sacrificial Altar lists +2 Espionage - the style of this page is mostly to show the changes from the vanilla building, so this is redundant.
  3. In the City Buildings list, the buildings that use Espionage don't have their prices listed. It was a simple matter to copy one of the other cells that did have the price.
  4. Also, there's an inconsistency with the Special buildings, in that one of them had a listed cost of 0, while the others were "Special". I just made mine all 0 and shaded the cells to denote their specialness, but maybe using "GP", or which GP used would be better?
  5. ADDED 8/6: One other inconcistency: the Madrassa lists +2 Culture, which is redundant since the Library does this too.
  6. In the Tech Tree Flow Chart, you misspelled "Monastery" under Scientific Method.
  7. In the Civilizations BTS page, you misspelled "Free Speech".
  8. On the Terrain and Resource Yields page, if you sort with one of the buttons, you will screw up the whole page. The second chart should probably be moved to the Resource Yield by Improvement tab, OR moved beside either of these two charts where you can narrow the columns to less-ridiculous widths.
  9. Also, on this specific chart, you didn't keep the two Fallout entries next to each other (inconsistent with other pages).
  10. ADDED 8/6: On the Unique Buildings, where a building gives bonus gold, you've listed it as bonus commerce. (Mint, Stock Exchange, Mall)
  11. ADDED 8/6: The Ikhanda says it has a reduced cost, but the sheet says a Barracks costs 50 vs its 60, so delete this and replace it with "costs 60 vs 50". ALso, you misspelled "Barracks".
In an effort to reduce the number of tabs to rifle through, return the Changelog to the Title Page, and put the UUs and UBs on the regular Units and Buildings pages and integrate them into those lists.

A separate list of the actual differences between UU/UB and normals could be compiled, but it shouldn't be necessary if you simply keep the items and their variations together instead of being strict with your alphabetical sorting.

That's all I got for now.
