there are three Civs with an "x happens upon Capturing a City", which are Alex (Macedonia), Shaka (Zulu), and Phil (Spain). Vicky (England) also had one of these abilities. What do people think about this type of mechanic generally? And which one is the most powerful?
Don't like it because it forces a playstyle. Of course it is fine to have a militaristic civ, with elite troops etc. - I often played the spartans in alpha centauri as hybrid faction, not always conquering, but also having times of peace, fighting "honorable" wars with my allies etc. Giving incentives to actually conquer cities means you get them only if you constantly conquer & consequently you are nailed down to a specific playstyle.
there are only four Civs with double Unique Units, which are Alex, Horrific Howling Harold and his Howling Commandos, Vicky, Teddy. What do people think of double Uniques? Does it work for Alex?
In general you should focus more on "cool" traits & not on "many" traits. Would Alex be different if he had only hetairoi? Do we need a second legion, aka hipaspist? Is the missing war weariness really changing your playstyle? Do you even bother building basilikoi? Don't implement stuff that doesn't change anything for the sake of it.
How does the Hypaspist compare to the Roman Legion?
They are ok/comparable, the best advantage is of course that they don't need iron & therefore help in those tricky situations when you lack strategic ressources. Legions' general combat advantage is slightly better.
