So I'm the first Swede to reply? Huh, fancy that. Normally we're everywhere on the web despite there only being 9 million of us. From the geographical middle of Sweden, so closest would be viking I guess. Of course as anyone who knows their history well would say that Sweden has nothing to do with vikings since it was founded 200 years after the viking era ended. But it's kinda cool to call yourself viking.

    American. America.

But I like playing any of the leaders/nations. Inspired by the ALC, I am going through the leaders alphabetically (currently at Cyrus, with Darius on deck).

The idea of a nation-state is fairly recent in human history. I believe France was actually the first to introduce it. But nation and nation-states are two different things. As a Swede you belong to a nation that was developed out of Viking ancestry. Your Viking ancestry is also shared by Norwegians, Danes, and Icelanders. Those nation-states including yours all shares a common ancestry and nation, therefore the development of nation-state separation is arbitrary.

Well I was refering to how the Romans pronounced it way back then. Somehow the pronounciation got distorted to what it is in English now. Happened with many words when they got "Anglicized(sp)". Ottoman is a distorted pronounciation of Osman.

the Romans settled Romania like a "colony" IIRC, that's why it has a romance language. (unlike where as in Spain, France etc. Latin was just influenced (and a little bit of mixing))

I am American, 100%, but since I am only 3rd generation Irish, I have a large extended family that includes many Irish-Americans and many Irishmen.

I'm English and Dutch, with Irish, Russian, German, and Austrian mixed in. I consider myself English, Irish, Austrian and Russian mostly though. Closest civ is the USA, been here since 1639 AD. :salute:

    Hmm... difficult question:

I was born in a town, that was founded by CELTS.
In the park next to my office archeologists now are excavating ROMAN ruins.
    My native language is GERMAN.
    My passport says "AUSTRIA".

I guess, i belong to the HOLY ROMAN EMPIRE.

I'm sure there are, but they just haven't posted. There's a very famous poster here from Singapore, can't remember his name though. Has a dragonfly as his avatar...

    English, so England, naturally.

I do have a partly Russian fiancee, so I was told to leave Russia alone in my latest "domination" game, but never mind that.

Pe Ell - Uppsala is the second city you get in the Viking era, so that should help things along.

Romans occupied Dacia during Trajan'reign and turned it into a "Roman Colony" => ( after sometime and with a lot of influence of course ) Romanian people. :)
