Civ Specific...Wonders

Well, I don't think we can separate the X and I from 9 o'clock guys, it's like separating the Big Ben and the HoP...

and the Earth is part of the Universe....

So, it shouldn't be the Big Ben but the Big Bang... Case closed.

So, who's gonna do the artwork fer dat?

once again, can WE LET IT GO? i like this idea but this bickering is killing the idea..... sorry to be melodramtic

@Luko, thanks for taking a joke well

=p, so i was unable to find graphics for others Unique Wonders, so let's starting the discussion of all the one that i have ( the bold ones in my list ).

Maybe I can post a beta version.

I personally would like to use the buildings in the back of the leaders' animation as the UW, if we can find some new general WWs.

This isn't really feasible for most civs, but you make a very good point for the Vikings. I've forgotten the name of the palace featured in Ragnar's portrait, but this is probably the best wonder for the Vikings.

So why in mods, SimCity 3000, picture of Enlightenment(?) Era in Rise of Nations, etc., etc. is just a Big Ben, without HoP?

For the exact same reason pictures of Notre Dame or the Eiffel Tower (or pretty much any famous structure) only show the top portion. On this very page you can see SdLeo's avatar doing the same thing. Just because parts of a building become iconic, it doesn't mean we scrap the rest of the building.

(and the spire could stand alone. Just fix it into the ground.)

Honestly the reason why I was proposing this is that I hate Hammurabi standing before the Hanging Gardens, that almost always are build in Beijing, Mao standing in front of the Forbidden Palace, that's anywere but not in China, Stalin in front of the Kremlin, Hatshepsut in front of the Pyramids, Mansa Musa in front of the University of Sankore (never have seen that in Mali!!!), Montezuma in front of the Chichen Itza, that's build long before the New World civs even spawn, Ghandi in front of the Taj Mahal, that's often build by a European civ - at least the Parthenon is often build by the Greeks, so Alexander (and sometimes Qin) is usually the only one standing in front of a building that is located in his country.:crazyeye:

I know that several civs don't have a good backgound building (England, USA, Rome, Inca, Mongols), but it should not be that hard to find appropriate UWs for them. Hopefully.

Btw I think it should be the HoP, but Big Ben should suffice as graphics for that or has anyone ever complained that the Forbidden Palace is so inaccurately displayed?;)

I just pretend that we're meeting in the country the building's in .

I know that's not very plausible but hey ;)

It's a bit of a problem when it's not been built or has been destroyed though...

Hi again, Talkie Toaster:

Apparently, we think very much alike. I've been working along these same lines since January (but mostly for national wonders, although I thought about great wonders, too).
See here: http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=199622
I also included the possibility of creating entirely new wonder types, but I think it would be best not to do that for now. The thread seems to have died out, unfortunately.

It wouldn't be too hard to get a comprehensive list, but what I'd really like, as you pointed out, would be to have specialized art as well.

I've done several tests with this system, and it does work, but there is one bug: for some reason, when I build a unique national wonder, the building itself does not appear in the 3D city view! I can't figure out why.

I'll try to see what I can come up with in the way of more names, as I'm all for more civ-specific content. It really adds to the flavor.

(P.S. I can see it now--major "emigration" fights over whose wonder the London Bridge should be: England, since it was originally built in London, or America, since it was moved to Lake Havasu. :crazyeye: :D)

Hmm, if only RFC attracted good graphic artists :p

There are quite a few available as optional downloads, but not nearly enough to make a comprehensive set, I agree. I just got a book out of the library called "Buildings that Changed the World", so that should be quite useful ^_^

On an off-topic note, while I was there I found a book called "Great Britons", thought it might be useful for your Civ Specific GP modcomp.

I find this idea very intersting, and you see to find some problems to choose a Spanish Wonder. Here are my comments:
-The Alhambra: it's a nice builduing, one of the nicest in the world. It's a good idea. Its only problem is not have been built by Spanish rulers, so it's off. I support the idea of including it as WW ;).
-Santiago de Compostela: it is not a building, it's city. The building it's the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela. A good idea, IMO. We may discuss later for its effect, but probably will give a lot of commerce (thanks to the Pilgrim's routes).
-El Escorial: it's no more than the common Palace. The capital of Spain was moved from Toledo to Madrid after building it. So, no way. And it's horribly ugly.
-Other ideas I have:
-Magellan's Trip: how could you forgotten this? Can't you remember older Civilization games? Ah, you heretics, burn in hell! It will be a commerce wonder, also. And for those arguing Magellan was Portuguese... Spanish paid the expedition, and Spanish was the captain that succeded Magellan.

I will continue this list later. Now I have to catch the bus!

In RFC these national wonders doesn't exist:

National Epic, Oxford University, Heroic Epic and Mt. Rushmore.

I agree with the others... but i think that this isn't very necessery =p i prefer new Unique Wonder than a change of graphics in the existing ones.

Agreed (hate to shoot down your idea!). Half of that list doesn't exist and the other half is just re-skins. I'd rather have new content added than existing prettied up.
