So, I had no idea I wasn't the first person to ever have this idea *shocked*, but am certainly glad I found this. My AAR is actually a day to day post from one turn a day. If all goes well, it should go over a year. Of course, with the way I play, it might only be a couple weeks before I get wiped out.

Anyway... he's the posting I made to my guild's message boards:

I'm having way too much fun with Civ V, but don't really have enough time to delve all the way into it right now. What I DO have the time to do is play a single turn a day and tell you the story of those events as told through the mouth of the Emporer himself.

Any thoughts or opinions, please share! I know the actual page layout is rough, but again... not much time lately.

Any other folks doing anything similar?

Obviously, there are several of you doing that "something similar" and I'll be scoping it all out thoroughly!

A story post for every turn ... I DO look forward to this! From the time I found the EU2 AAR forum, I've loved the story-based retellings. Good luck, hope to see this keep going! Bookmarked.

AAR is an After Action Report. I first encountered the concept relative to games on the Europa Universalis forums, though I gather wargamers have been doing them for eternity.

Some are straight gameplay - I did this, I did that, here's a picture of my troops conquering Poland... etc. Others go more story oriented. It's all up to the author (and maybe the readers).

AAR can also mean After Action Review. This is a term we used when I was in the military... generally it's a debriefing after any type of mission or important situation to evaluate what happened, where things went right, what went wrong, etc. I love that this term is used in the context of the turn-based storytelling... even gave me just a tad more joy and motivation to keep going on with this.

The funny thing is... I can easily identify with my character as the leader of the empire... I seriously share his feelings in the game. It's not as hard as I thought it might be to narrate. I really did have that "got to be kidding me" feeling when I uncovered that next ruins... everything is going a little too well.

The one turn a day concept is an interesting idea but also quite a commitment. On the positive side it does keep you blogging every day. Good luck, can't promise I read your blog every day, but I will try to keep up on what your doing.

Well, so far so good. One reason I am only doing one turn a day is so that it doesn't get so overwhelming that it becomes a chore. Right now I'm having a blast with it. It actually feels like there's not really enough going on with it, since I've really only got one unit roaming around, but that will be changing soon enough.
